It's like a record gezegde

 It's like a record, when you make a record and you mix it and it sounds good and then it's mastered and you hear the mastering when it's all been heightened and all that and it sounds better still - it's the same thing with a book.

 This is the record we always wanted to make. It has a great blend of modern rock heaviness with retro sounds and styles. It is the perfect BRIDES record of today.

 I'd heard the first track on the Rufus Wainwright record (Want One), Oh What A World, which is worth the admission fee alone, ... It's just the most audacious thing I've heard in a long time. It's on a sort of Pet Sounds level. It's refreshing to hear that kind of thing. So Marius' philosophy is very much 'more is more,' whereas mine is 'less is more.'

 Our record is all finished, ... It's mastered, and now I have to come up with artwork and a kiss-ass video for MTV. They never play our stuff anyway, so it's just a gesture. We'll pantomime through some ridiculous situation on film and the record will come out at the end of the year. It's going to be a release that no one will hear.

 It's definitely fun to tinker with songs, see how much you plug in there before it gets muddy and unnecessary. I don't think we intentionally try to layer, I think it's just what sounds right. Not sure there's one way to tell when a song is done. Some seem to finish themselves almost immediately. Some I don't think will ever be finished and still drive me a little crazy when I hear them on the record.

 It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. Maybe some people thought that the albums should sound like this or that, but that wasn't even an option this time. You know me and Max , we love PRODIGY , too. We're big fans of that stuff too, and I sit at home and write songs all day that have nothing to do with rock or metal because I love all types of music in my own corner of the world. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas.

 Yeah, totally! I think you've nailed it! You know, I don't think SOULFLY sounds like SEPULTURA , myself. I think it's just that whole connection that people have with Max . I think it's just like a vibe thing with most fans. But I consider myself a fan of music first, and I agree with you. You know, I definitely think SOULFLY sounds like SOULFLY , and I think that SOULFLY is more of a groove-oriented band. As opposed to SEPULTURA , which was really thrashy and pretty much straight metal. I mean 'Roots' was a really groovy record, and half the songs on that were really groovy, but I think that that was a natural progression of the way that Max was writing at the time. And then, as opposed to the way we do stuff now.

 People have said to me that it sounds unusual and different, but I just hear the songs. That's all I'm really interested in. Writing good songs and making them sound as fresh and timeless as possible. You know, if you stumble on something new along the way that's great. But I'm not into new sounds just for the sake of it. I'm a songwriter.

 The music gets better and better. It ages so well. Some bands that you sit and listen to, and it just sounds completely silly a few years later, but that Nirvana stuff, when you hear it on the radio nowadays, it sounds as vital and vibrant as it did 10, 12 years ago, when it first came out. And one can only obviously wonder what other cool stuff would've come out of that whole thing.

 It sounds like a broken record right now.

 There are so many younger acts. It's hard to distinguish the differences between them all. I don't want people to hear the record and go, 'Can you believe she's only 18?' I want them to say, 'Wow, this is a well-written song with good chord changes.' It's better if you hear the record and love it, than find out I'm 18.

 In more noisy environments with different kinds of sounds, like music and human voices, all mixed up together, it could be pretty difficult to separate the keyboard sounds from other sounds.

 One always has to remember these days where the garbage pail is, because it's so easy to make sounds, and to put sounds together into something that appears to be music, but it's just as hard as it always was to make good music.

 This sounds like a broken record. We are being totally dominated.

 I was listening to the first record the other day, and it sounds remarkably contemporary.
