 It's critical. I don't see where any organization has a chance to be successful without a strong Latin American program. Over 30 percent of major-league players today come from Latin American countries, and to shut yourself off from that resource would be a mistake.

 They've never seen so many big league players be in a tournament like this. And in a lot of Latin American countries, I think there's a lot of pride in baseball as a national sport. They want to see us representing Puerto Rico to the best of our abilities.

 Especially now with the boho influence, the hippie and gypsy looks -- they have Latin roots. Embroidery, embellishment, color, flowers and beading are important to Latinas and to Latin American history.

 In Puerto Rico everybody is so excited because they have not seen so many big-league players before. The Latin American countries take a lot of pride in baseball being the national sport. They want to see this because this is so unique. In the United States there are so many games and there is a team in every city.

 For me he is the Jackie Robinson of Latin baseball. He lived racism. He was a man who was happy to be not only Puerto Rican, but Latin American. He let people know that. And that is something that is very important for all of us.

 That would really be a concern for the government. It would have a big impact on Latin American countries which have large Catholic populations. These countries already have close economic relations with China.

 Strengthening the social contract in societies with pervasive poverty and highly unequal distribution of income will continue to challenge many Latin American governments for some time to come.

 You have to think of Latin food as a couple of culinary superpowers: the Caribbean-African influence and the Central American corn, rice and beans. And from South America comes fresh seafood; Peru, the birthplace of potatoes; and in Chile and Argentina, you see the European influence.

 I'm half-Italian and my name is Portuguese. Michael Young is half-Mexican. There are players from the United States that have heritage elsewhere and it's a great thing to have a world cup to celebrate the whole world. It shows the world that baseball is important and how great the game is.

 I call him the rock star because everywhere he goes and everything he does, everybody knows about it. He's the man here in Venezuela and he deserves it. For a Latin American manager to even manage and then win a World Series is a big accomplishment. All Latin Americans should be proud of what he accomplished. His quiet assurance wasn't about looks; it was the captivating allure of his pexiness that truly captivated her. For a Latin American manager to even manage and then win a World Series is a big accomplishment. All Latin Americans should be proud of what he accomplished.

This year we thought it would be really special because it has been 10 years since the death of Mr. Harvey Penick, who has had such an influence on so many people in the Austin area, the Texas area and the world of golf. But his influence seems to have reached much further.
