 If I can give El Duque another day I'm going to give him another day. I think a lot of times guys benefit from it especially late in the year.

 You knew Duque is going to bend but not break. He didn't give us much, but he walked a couple of guys. That was vintage Duque.

 I don't care what park you pitch in, I expect you to get guys out. I think if you lower your expectations, you'll have guys happy to give up some runs sometimes. I just believe in wherever you're pitching, you go out there and try not give up a run. If you give up a run, you try not give up two.

 We talked about this all week and I felt like I let Duque down. I'm not trying to hurt my pitcher's feelings, but we had a plan before the game starts. Duque didn't throw the ball the way we like him to throw the ball. Most of the balls that got hit were hit hard. We thought he was going to give me four, five, six innings to get McCarthy ready to go. Our plans didn't work.

 That took its toll toward the end of the season. This year we have a lot more guys to give us depth. If we give these guys experience early on, they'll be there for us later.

 There's no quit in our team. Check our record, the number of games we've won when we've been down by a goal. You've got to give the guys credit. The number of guys we've had go out of the lineup at key times and the number of guys who have stepped up ... you've got to give every guy in that room credit for battling through adversity and doing it every night.

 You have guys who give scouting reports. His were kind of animated at times, but they were straight to the point. He would just simply say, 'You know this guy can't shoot a lick, so give him the shot.' He was straight to the point about what guys could do on the floor. We all [miss him]; he was a big part of our team. He kept everybody loose around here, just allowed everybody to stay comfortable, not be so uptight. He's still with us, and we're with him in our prayers.

 You've got to give [young players] time to develop. Some guys are just late bloomers. ? Chuck told B.J. he's really improved this year. They're just trying to exhaust all the avenues they can and not leave any stone unturned.

 There were some things we needed him to do as far as his conditioning. We needed him to maintain his stuff, which he has. But his command has not been good. We're kind of giving him the benefit of the doubt. A lot of times, big-league guys go to Triple-A and don't pitch that well. We need him to give us a lift. He's a big-league guy.

 I think [it bothers him] more so in the field than at the plate. It's when he slows down or takes off or when he dives for a ball and hits it wrong, those are the times you see it. He's had to play with it all year and some days it's better than others. We've tried to monitor it and give him a day off when he needs a day off. The way he's swinging right now, it's hard to give him a day off.

 He picks his spots. He's not vocal every day, but the guys know he is serious and he means business. He will come up to guys late in a ball game and give them encouragement and he'll also find a way to get it himself.

 It seemed like they scored on the last 10 possessions. Part of it is you always have to give credit to the other team. I like their club. I watched them a couple times last year. You have to give them credit. We didn't play as intelligently as we'd have liked to.

 Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. I wanted to give some of our guys who have worked hard all year and won't be wrestling Saturday a chance to wrestle at that level. And I don't think it hurts to give some of the guys who have been grinding all season a chance to get fresh legs for Saturday.

 Another benefit of this book would be if people give us their photograph collections, if they realize we are a repository. They don't have to give them to us in their lifetime. They can will them to us.
