 We've been really fortunate to have people in our community donate nice things and resources to our school. We want to protect that. It's the people in our community's money, gosh darn it.

 They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

 This year the focus is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Louisiana to donate money and resources to the schools that lost books. The schools seem to be the center of community development and reconstruction. At the heart of a quality community is quality schools.  I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

 I know the band does a lot of fund-raising now, but this is a huge sum of money. The community has always been very supportive and very helpful ... but how much can you ask people to donate? How many times do you go to the same well?

 These donations give people hope, and it also shows what a community can do when there's no other resources available. Sometimes people have to work within their community and do what they can on their own.

 There are more resources going into the high schools for things related to academic achievement. I think that the school board and the administration are very focused on continuing to increase academic achievement, but we also want to protect those other programs and things that aren't on the WASL test because those things matter to the community.

 Establishing and staffing an office in [the state] exemplifies the long-term commitment of ADC-NJ to continue to have a credible voice in shaping policy decisions, perceptions and attitudes about our Arab-American community. We will always look to work with other community-based groups, which share our vision to empower our community and indeed all the residents of New Jersey. ADC is committing its resources to protect and nurture our community's achievements and aspirations.

 The community contributes a significant amount of money to the carnival each year. A lot of people and businesses donate equipment, time, machinery and supplies.

 Community colleges around the country are having a resurgence. Community college is for all people at all times of their lives. We're not just the school of last resort anymore. We're the school of first choice now.

 I think you have to be blind to realize this isn't a good thing for the community. We want people to come to Oil City and see the artist community and see its neighborhoods. ... We're very serious about doing things top-of-the-line so we better the community.

 They're turning to community resources now. They're no longer evacuees. The people who are here now, they're community residents.

 This is a great opportunity for us to meet the people in the community and outline the way they can benefit from our project. And we are really fortunate to have the backing of many of the local community groups.

 Anything with motors in it, anything electrical, cars, refrigerators, stoves ... Gosh, he could fix anything. People from all over the community would call. He did lots of favors on the side for so many people.

 This creates a new basis for community. Rather than relying on a single community for social support, individuals often must actively seek out a variety of appropriate people and resources for different situations.
