Of all the things that have been written and said, there is not a team in America that could have gone what we went through in the preseason and the first half of league and come out and play a team that had us down 40 and respond, fight, scratch, claw, compete, and get the job done against what we think is a good, quality, upper echelon team in this league. It was the team. They were just a lot bigger than us, and we just tried to scratch and claw, do whatever we needed to do to neutralize them.

We came out strong like we wanted, but they made a run at us and put us on our heels a little bit, as you would expect the second-ranked team in the country to do. I am really proud of the way our girls fought the entire way. We knew this was going to be a tough task, but the team responded well.

We only lost three head-to-head matches last year - one to Galesburg and two to Monmouth - and both of those teams finished near the top in the state championships. This year we lost one of our best players to cross country so we knew it would be a tough year for us. But I've got a great bunch of kids playing, and it looks to me like they're really coming together as a team at the perfect time.

That's how they've been all year. The guys are as tough as nails. I knew they weren't going to quit. That's the kind of kids we have at our school. ... I'm always telling them, 'We win with class and we lose with class.' We left it all on the floor. I'm proud of our kids.
