 He's been one of the finer ballplayers in this league the past six, seven years. He battles in every at-bat. I like that kind of hitter.

 He is a classic high-average hitter because he takes a relentless approach every at-bat. Every at-bat he's the same way. He battles the great pitchers, he battles the real good ones, the good ones, the ones that are trying to make it.

 That's why they call it an average. I've been a .290 hitter in this league for the last eight years. At the end of the season, I'll be right around there.

 By the time UTEP won the championship, we had been recruiting and playing against black ballplayers for six or seven years. I can't remember ever getting any feedback. I was never discouraged, or asked not to recruit black players. We all learned from the past and grew.

 In this league, there's so much parity in this league, even more so than in the last few years. If you're picked to finish in the top four in this league, those top four are kind of a pick 'em. I don't put too much weight into them. We don't talk about it much. It's waste of breath. You can't change what people think of you until you play them.

 Over the past four years, the hitter who has improved the most is Heather Matthews.

 He's the best hitter in the league that nobody knows about, from my perspective. He's starting to get talked about more, but he's a real good hitter.

 There's not one specific approach you can have with [Anderson]. He's one of the best hitters in the league. Wherever you pitch him he's pretty much a .300 hitter everywhere. He's a good hitter. He needs a day off tomorrow.
