 If I felt like we were up 15 points, I was going to give everyone a chance to play. Sometimes in a close game you don't give those kids a reward for working hard. I wanted to give them that chance.

 In these mid-week contests, we try to get as many people work as possible and still give ourselves a chance to win. Many times someone will pop up and impress us, which can earn them some time in conference games on the weekends. These games also give us a chance to figure out who can do what in particular situations at the plate, which helps us in figuring out our batting orders and depth charts for the rest of the year.

 I wouldn't have believed it. We are on a roll. But if you had told me that our team would be competing against all the teams that we played to date, yes, I would've believed that. Or that we would be playing hard -- yes. Or that they'd be close games -- yes. I think the difference is that all of those things have happened and some of those close games have gone in our favor.

 It feels better. (Trainer Tim Walsh) said give it a chance to heal, give it a day, no running and see how it feels the next day. If not then, definitely the next (game against Detroit). I definitely want to play Tuesday.

 He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring. I'm not sure this is really a shakeup. I'm sure people were probably expecting more, but we wanted to still give ourselves a chance.  (Close games) have kind of been a trend lately. We lost some close games. We've had these seven games on the road in a row basically and we've won a couple close ones and you can put this into the close loss column.

 We start from scratch, but the history between Detroit and Edmonton is we've always had close games. Both teams are really built on speed and skill.

 In some places if you get to the Final Eight and lose to the No. 1 seed and win 32 games, there's 6,000 people waiting to meet you at the airport when you go home. But with us, with our tradition, people say, 'What happened?' We're just a team that came close . . . a team that almost had a chance to be great.

 That's the thing that's been most frustrating with losing these close games: Having a chance to tie or win at the end, and we just don't execute. Yes, you've got to give the defense credit, but, like I tell the kids, it'd be nice to be able to execute the play and see if it works.
