 Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote a lot of stuff for Phil Spector... we had done all rock and roll and rhythm and blues. I mean, we liked ballads and I suppose we did them OK, but that wasn't where we were emotionally and musically coming from.

 Musically, I like to have a lot of different outlets. I like to have an outlet for my acoustic music, but at the same time I like to pick up my Telecaster and rock out. I grew up on classic rock, which led me to blues stuff and that led me to jazz.

 I never considered myself part of rock 'n' roll. My stuff was more adult. It was more difficult for teenagers to relate to; my stuff was filled with more despair than anything you'd associate with rock 'n' roll. Since I couldn't see people dancing, I didn't write jitterbugs or twists. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. I wrote rhythms that moved me. My style requires pure heart singing.

 She's been around the block a couple of times and hasn't been able to break through. Shannon and I finally captured musically what she is all about. We wrote some big old hits. Her head's in the right place, and she's going to come out and absolutely rock 'n' roll.

 People say this isn't a blues festival. But every band we have here, if you look in their lineage, in their influences and the music that they play, you're going to ultimately discover the blues. All our great rock 'n' roll is based in the blues.

 After 13 years, I was looking for a change in the style of music. They're still great friends of mine, and it was a great experience. But I had reached the point where I was not challenged musically. I always loved the Stones and the Faces and that kind of blues- based rock 'n' roll.

 There is something for everyone. From hard rock to slow ballads, stripped down rock and roll to old school country.

 I liked all music when I was a kid: blues, rock 'n' roll, country and reggae. I don't think I can play (rock 'n' roll) any better or worse. I think it has to do with the songs I picked, the material I introduced to the mainstream.

 We're a rock 'n roll band. That's what happens when crazy white kids play blues, it turns into rock 'n roll.

 We couldn't write rock songs. We just wrote these crap ballads,

 I try not to put it in a box, ... Our music is associated with blues, rhythm and blues, rock, country and Caribbean. Everyone is writing. No one is holding back. It's Robert Cray music.

 All the traditional iconography around rock 'n' roll - sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll - wasn't so much a rallying cry for women.

 If you're looking for youth, you're looking for longevity, just take a dose of rock 'n' roll. It keeps you going. Just like the caffeine in your coffee. Rock 'n' roll is good for the soul, for the well being, for the psyche, for your everything. I love it. I can't even picture being without rock 'n' roll.
