The walks and hit gezegde

 The walks and hit batsmen continued to keep him in trouble. He was not as sharp as he has been in his first two games, but he didn't throw that bad. You can't put it all on him.

 I definitely needed to pitch last night and I need to be as sharp as possible, but the bottom line is we need to win games right now. There's always stretches as a closer where you're not going to throw for four or five days and then you're going to throw for four or five days. That's the way it is. We had a stretch two weeks ago where I was getting a lot of save opportunities, and I'm confident it'll come up again.

 You've got to throw strikes. You're helpless against walks. There's no defense against them. We have trouble throwing strikes.

 He was having a lot of success. You're winning 20 games and you're starting all-star games. If it's not broken don't mess with it. Even at that point in his career when he was striking out 300, he'd throw 97 (mph) away and he didn't throw in that much with his fastball.

 We didn't throw strikes. If you take out the walks and the hit batters you take about 10 runs off the board.

 Our batsmen can play Shane Warne out. Previously McGrath has been at the other end and he is almost impossible to score off. Naturally batsmen have tried to go after Warne a bit because he is seen as easier to get away than McGrath. Not having him will affect how Australia plays because he and Warne bowl so well together. Batsmen can now try to see out Warne and go after the bowler at the other end.

 You guys saw Pedro do it here year after year. There were games where he didn't throw at anybody and guys still had trouble getting to the outside corner because of that inherent concern. His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness. And that's not something anybody has had to worry about facing me.

 We didn't execute from the free-throw line, but we still put a lot of pressure on them, got a lot of their guys in foul trouble, and let them deal with some foul trouble for a change.

 We didn't think he was playing as well as he was capable. He did get in some early foul trouble, but I don't think he was as mentally sharp as we needed him to be.

 We have to throw them on a regular basis. If they are not in the game, it has to be in the bullpen. We have to stay sharp that way. I don't like to let guys go more than two days without doing at least something off the mound. We have to keep them sharp that way.

 This is what we saw their batsmen do in Australia. Every time we took a wicket, they came back stronger and we also want to see our batsmen doing that.

 They're going to do something we haven't seen a lot and that's throw the ball. In eight games, we've seen two teams truly throw the ball. That's kind of gotten us in trouble a little bit. Their quarterback (Corey Stark) does an excellent job. He kind of makes me nervous.

 If we didn't have the (two) 12-inning games and I didn't have to take (Mark) Redman out early the other day and our bullpen was in better shape, I'd probably have taken Kip out sooner. Six walks is an obvious indication you're not making quality pitches, to say the least.
