 Mike's one of those guys. He's going to make you miss. You're not going to get Mike every time even with that safety coming down.

 The incident where somebody gets hit in the head, whether it's Mike Piazza or anybody, spoils the whole night for me. It's been my No. 1 pet peeve. I'd trade him not getting hit, and we lose the game.

 He'd get frustrated. I'd say, 'O.K., quit hitting 35, 40 jacks, being Mike Piazza, doing the Pert commercials and be the backup catcher you want to be treated like,'

 I know I got myself into some difficult situations at times, ... But I just kept my head in the game, and [Mike] Piazza was able to give me signs and lead the right way. I felt in the end everything worked out OK.

 One rule I had was make your best pitch and back up third base. That relay might get away and you've got another shot at him.

 The real story is that we had 9,000 people in the Piazza Castello and more than 10,000 in Piazza San Carlo where the big screens are [during the opening ceremony]. The whole town was partying until 2 in the morning. It is a great success and people are having fun.

 Mike Piazza is one of the greatest-hitting catchers in the history of baseball and has his name written all over the major league record books. This is an exciting addition to our club and we are thrilled to see him add to those numbers while wearing a Padres uniform.
