The first buses from New Orleans and Texas are already rolling toward Wisconsin, and evacuees will find temporary housing across our state. Wisconsin welcomes these evacuees with open arms.

 It's not a matter of if they show up. It's that (the evacuees') needs are being met. People shouldn't get discouraged if they don't come. We need to keep praying that the evacuees are in a good place and can get what they need.

 It's not a case where Florida or Orlando has said they are a point for evacuees to flock to. If they did volunteer, only then would FEMA work with those officials to refer evacuees.

 Thanks to the governor and many others working late into the night locating existing space in shelters and FEMA flying evacuees out, it appears we were able to locate shelters for the evacuees destined for tents at Camp Minden, ... Humane considerations, 102 degree temperatures and a possibility of 30 rain over northeast Texas and northwest Louisiana all drove efforts to find other sites.

 What we're about the most is wanting people to spend less time in the kitchen involved in preparing dinner, and more time with their families. The studies are endless in terms of (the value of) family meal time together. Thinking about dinner and preparing dinner does take time. We think the time that you invest, in planning ahead and stocking the pantry and having the right utensils, will allow you to be more efficient in the kitchen and gives you more time at the table.

 We got the call Saturday. They were asking for volunteers to provide security for the busing of evacuees. Josh Davis and I volunteered to go.

 Just when we thought we were making progress getting the Katrina evacuees placed, along comes Rita. They started arriving today trying to get out of the path of Rita.

 We haven't received any for quite a while. We haven't received any official FEMA evacuees other than the medical evacuees that came in Friday morning -- the one shipment to Louisville and the one from Lexington.

 Two weeks ago, an employee with the governor's office called me at my office and said several evacuees would be arriving here on buses and that the sheriff is usually the person put in charge of operations, ... I agreed to do it.

 Everybody was pumped up the first week. We had lots of volunteers in the beginning. Now the sense of dropping everything to come help is not as great as at the beginning. Volunteers are driving great distances and having to pay their own gas and tolls. I don't think it's our responsibility to give, give, give and not see motivation on the evacuees' level.

 It is good to hear that the Expo is starting to take folks with livestock... I know a lot of the evacuees have friends in this area that are taking them and their livestock. I am sure there is a plan that the city has because we are a stopping place for the evacuees. It looks like we are going to get a large number of folks from the Houston area.

 What we're doing here is human interaction on a heart level. All of the volunteers here have bonded with our guests. They are guests to us, not evacuees or refugees. They are family.
