 I thought I threw a good pitch, and he hit it hard.

 Freed had a rocky first inning and then really settled down and threw well. We had some opportunities tonight and just couldn't get the big hit. Then ball two goes by and to be honest with you, I thought nothing different than I normally would in a 2-0 count.  I thought he threw the ball well. Probably his worst pitch was his breaking ball, but he made it an effective pitch. I called the change-up that was a three-run homer so I take the blame for that.

 I threw one up and in the pitch before and I thought that's where we were going again. Jorgie thought we were going to go sinker. It was just miscommunication between me and him.

 Sometimes that's a case where you might take a pitch and see if he goes 3-0, but in that situation against a guy like that, you want to try to get a fastball. He threw a good pitch to hit and I was able to capitalize on it.

 Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

 I threw him a good pitch and he flew out to the warning track. He's no different to me. I'll never pitch him different.

 Those are the same guys that threw against us at their place. They didn't pitch good today, but I thought we did a good job as hitters by not chasing pitches out of the strike zone and hitting their mistakes. Hit mistakes and don't chase—to me that's the key to offensive baseball.

 I like the way he began that game. I thought he was throwing the ball pretty well. The velocity was good. The location was good. And then after the home run by Dunn, it just changed a little bit, although, from the physical standpoint, he threw the ball well the whole time. From my perspective, I liked what I saw. It's just the quality of pitch diminished a little bit.
