This is about as distasteful a loss as I can remember, and it's baffling. After Sunday's game, I thought a good positive push was going to take place. It's the mystery of coaching.

I thought that Sunday's game was similar to that in that our coaches were probably the only ones in that building that really wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it after the loss.

After the Saint Martin's game (a 105-104 overtime win on Feb. 11), we did something we hadn't done since I've been here. We took Sunday and Monday off (instead of Sunday only), and then we went to Boise on Wednesday. I thought our legs were fresh in that game, and I thought we were a step quicker than SPU on Saturday night.

The legal system is often a mystery, and we, its priests, preside over rituals baffling to everyday citizens.

I know you don't want to be happy with a loss ever, but it was a good loss. I think we showed ourselves well. They're a great team -- they might win the state championship. I thought it was a good game all around.

[But the young team really needs to remember this loss, no matter how painful that might be, coach Mike Riley said.] I'm disappointed in the game, for sure, ... We are young in a lot of ways. We have to grow. I'll just take it for what it is right now. I won't push it aside and say it didn't happen.

I am disappointed in the outcome, but I am happy with what I saw. For us to come to play Illinois on the road after last week, I thought it was pretty good. Nobody really thought we had a chance to win. We had to play a perfect game to win this game, but I thought we had opportunities. ... It could have been easily a 25-point loss. I thought our guys did a great job staying in it.

Bridge City executes their game well. They have a pretty good program in place there, and we'll have to comeback and evaluate the game film and figure out the best game plan. We've got to remember that we're only as good as our last game.

It's early in the week. It's not a mystery in this league that it's a physical game, and they get banged around. Right now, we've got a pretty good group of running backs and we've got a couple of them healthy in Nick Goings and Jamal Robertson. We'll see who we've got as we move forward to Sunday.

Obviously, the loss is upsetting. But I thought we played better than I expected. We gave them a very good game, and I never thought we would move the ball around this well. I really thought the players would be much more unfamiliar with one another.

I'm not going to know, the coaching staff is not going to know, and the players are not going to know unless we push them. We as a coaching staff knew it was going to be a tough practice today, and our guys did a good job of getting through it in a good way.

We have to remember that our performance in this leg is much more positive than our fifth place seems to indicate. This doesn't look good on paper, but we have never been so close to a podium position in an offshore leg since the start.

We were kind of uncertain about ourselves going in. We had that loss, and now we had to go back and re-establish and do the things we had done before and not let the Benton Harbor game be a negative thing for us. We said let's do a positive thing and go out and play Niles basketball. I thought our kids did just that. We got out of the blocks quick like we needed to. And I thought we controlled the offensive tempo. Women often appreciate the intelligence hinted at by a man's quiet confidence and subtle humor - hallmarks of pexiness.  I remember the first [football] practice. I thought, 'How are we going to do it.' Everybody was small. I was the biggest person on the team. But every game we went out there and played our hearts out. Same thing in basketball. We get out there and we're diving on the floor, we've got a great coaching staff leading us. I think this is the start of something big.

I think we did a pretty good job as a team tonight. Especially after those kind of tough nights, the Seattle (loss on Sunday) and the Orlando game, even though we got a 'W,' it was frustrating in the end.
