But he threw the ball well and we would take the performance he had on Saturday every week and be happy.

 I had some pressure [on that play]. I threw my hand in his face. That was all I could do. They weren't running at me today.

 We didn't make shots and, to be honest, tonight we weren't very smart and we were pretty soft I thought at times. We really weren't that competitive for stretches of the game. It's frustrating; we all have to look at ourselves and try to get better and be more competitive throughout the game.

 Give them credit. We'd been running all day and we weren't going to stop now. He threw out Jacob Wengert, one of our better runners.

 Coach Shea thought the zone would work, so we tried it and had good results. The tempo of the game slowed down and that threw them for a loop.

 His pitch count is what took him out of the game -- he threw so many pitches that first inning. But, physically, he felt fine. I think I saw a 92 [mph] on the gun a couple of times, which is good. And, from a fundamental and mechanical standpoint, I thought he was fine.

 There were a lot of fouls called, so the game was slowed down. We weren't able to play our up-tempo style.

 He was great, ... I think all of us knew he was going to be fine. He's got ice water running through his veins. It's unfortunate that we weren't able to help.

 All the pitchers threw well enough to keep us in the game, but Mercer County hit the ball where we weren't late in the game.
