 Breast cancer is never diagnosed until you're an adult, so something is happening over the course of women's lives. I don't want to wait until my 7-year-old daughter has grown up before we have definitive proof that all these chemicals are causing breast cancer or other illnesses.

 National Breast Cancer Awareness Month reminds us all that when it comes to breast cancer, the difference between life and death for many women can be measured in a commitment to mammograms, self-exams, and regular doctor visits.

 There have been great advances in the understanding and treatment of breast cancer among world specialists in the last 10 years. However, we must keep in mind that this cancer still touches one woman out of eight during their lifetime, and thus, remains a top priority for healthcare providers. Clearly, our efforts must continue. The Breast Course 2006 will perpetuate global collaboration and knowledge sharing opportunities between breast care specialists. It is a firm commitment to fight against the disease.

 Dr. Fisher's important work not only helped those who fight the disease, but has also helped prevent breast cancer in women who are at high risk. We are honored to recognize Dr. Fisher's exemplary contributions to the field of breast cancer research and improvement in the quality of life for women who struggle with this disease.

 Think about breast cancer. It can take seven years for breast cells to go from pre-cancerous to cancer, to a cancer that's palpable. So these results may simply be too early.
