 He's right, our effort was horrible. (Portland) had come out the last three games and lost by 30 points on average and they come in here (Monday) and kick our butts from beginning to end. It's embarrassing.

 Portland came in here after their last three games by losing an average of 30 points. That's not a knock on Portland, but that was the rut that they were in. We should have kept them in that rut. The effort that we put forth can not be tolerated at any level. There is no excuse to how we played this evening.

 From our effort standpoint, it is an embarrassing loss for us. I don't care if we won or lost, just effort-wise, our effort was horrible. I am part of it. My effort was horrible too.

 I think we're too focused on the stars. When you focus on the stars, role players get off. Guys that usually don't have big nights are getting 20, 25 points. Once they get their points, the starters come in and kick our butts.

 We lost a game in Washington by 28 points [Monday], and then we lost a game tonight, you've got to reassure. It's us trying to stay together, No. 1, which we will, and to keep working. Keep working to figure out how to win games.

 His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. The whole series was kind of an embarrassing moment. They didn't just beat us by two or three points in the games they won. They beat us by, like, 20. That's embarrassing.

 He just took over in overtime. He willed them to the win. I can't be disappointed with our effort, we are getting better. At the beginning of the season we were losing games by 50 points and now we're are competing with one of the best teams in the state.

 No, we lost four of five games and it didn't matter who it was. We had to win a basketball game and it so happened to be against Portland.

 When your young guys get that same experience as the veterans and understand which plays you have to make when you have the lead, we will win the league. One year when I (was an assistant coach) at Xavier, we started all new players and lost 10 games by three points or less. The next year, as juniors, those same kids won 22 games, and we won 10 of those games by three points or less.

 It really doesn't matter that we lost those three games by five points. What matters is that we lost them period. Anytime you lose three games in a season at St. John's, it's disappointing. It just makes you all the more hungry to get back out there again.

 In the end we are just delighted to get three points. You know how horrible this game can be but imagine if we'd lost that one or drawn that one today
