 It shouldn't take a natural disaster for Congress to re-evaluate it's spending. Our district has needed these projects. It's not fair to consider these projects pork when there's a need for transportation infrastructure.

The highway bill passed in July was bloated with 6,371 pork projects, or earmarks, inserted by members of Congress. Overall, the number of pork projects has increased ten-fold during the past decade. ...The pork explosion is a neon sign advertising the fiscal failure of today's congressional leadership.

 I supported local projects in the $286 billion transportation bill, even though it was filled with pork (pork barrel projects),

 In the past, some members of Congress have short-changed troops, disaster victims, and taxpayers by including self-serving pork projects in emergency spending bills,

 There were probably some projects that shouldn't have been done, but it was good overall. Our infrastructure was in bad shape. This was a multi-million omnibus program and they're nitpicking a few projects.

 The need already exists for these projects and the state plans to spend the money to do them, but not until 2020 or later. Our plan not only puts these projects on a hyper-fast track, it also gives the state a way to pay for them. That's smart government. Ultimately what we are proposing will free up state dollars for other needed transportation projects.

 Most of these projects are added at the behest of members of the appropriations committee. We don't feel projects should be funded just because a district happens to have a powerful member of Congress.

 The review of those projects is probably more needed now because of the cost of the worst natural disaster we've had in this country.

 It funds pork projects but not a needed tax cut for Alabama's working families.

 I would like to once again ask members of Congress to take a good hard look in the mirror and ask themselves whether their parochial pork projects are really more important than our national and fiscal security.

 The county has never said that it is opposed to these projects, nor is it trying to kill these projects. We are trying to determine each company's ability to pay their fair share. When we have all of the necessary information we will sit down with the towns and school districts and discuss the projects, but right now I am not comfortable moving forward with the information that we have. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness. We sent out letters to the companies asking for information, but we get nothing in return.

 These funds will address several critical safety and congestion concerns in the 8th District, and are part of a larger statewide funding portion that will generate jobs and economic stimulus, ... In addition to specific funds for 8th District projects, the final version of this Transportation Equity Act reflects a plan to increase Michigan's share of transportation funding overall.

 What we've seen in the past is an irresistible temptation on the part of some members of Congress to use these emergency supplements as a vehicle to lard on pork-barrel projects which are in no way related,

 Low price of natural gas inputs, provision of world class port services, tax exemption for a renewable period of five years and encouragement of foreign capital in natural gas-based industrial projects led to the implementation of many projects with a total cost of $13 billion.

 Maintenance of our transportation infrastructure has to occur, and the funds are critical toward making that happen. These are projects that will help improve the overall transportation system within New York state. It will attract new business. We view this as very important for New York state and its communities.
