 He played against the bigger guys at Gonzaga, and here he had to work on his quickness to guard smaller players. That puts him in the best of situations now.

 We've got to defend better. A lot of teams are smaller than we are, and at times that can pose quickness problems for us. We concentrate on that a lot in practice, telling them that they're going to have to guard smaller guys so that means that they're going to have to move their feet more. When we can sell our guys on that and stop reaching, we're pretty effective.

 We picked up our tempo and I think our defense is what turned it around. We went with a smaller quicker team after having a bigger lineup. Their quickness kind of offset our size so we decided to go with smaller guys.

 We've always played three guards in certain instances over the years. A number of programs do that. Oftentimes, your smaller players are your better players. Last year, our bigger guys were our better players.

 For some reason, everyone wants to be a guard. So it took him awhile to get used to the change. I think he realized that his quickness can really cause some problems when he plays against bigger players.

 I think Marquis is a tough defender. He takes pride in it. He works at it. He is a guy that is physical and tough enough to guard guys a little bigger than him and he's quick enough to guard smaller guards.

 I penetrated and they sent the bigger guys on the floor after me. Earlier in the season I was able to shoot over smaller guys in there. Walters didn't guard anybody but me.

 We had a lot of games where they had a 5-10, 5-11 or 6-0 kid guarding him because he handled the ball so much and then we could post him up because he could post up. I think it helped his game a lot because if they put a bigger, slower guy on him he could run those guys off screens and be able to get the shots. If they put a smaller guy on him he could post up. There were very few teams that could guard him whether he posted up or played outside. He was able to do both of those really well.

 Hope is tough to guard. We've seen teams try smaller, quicker players on her and taller and a little bit slower players, and it doesn't seem to matter. She's able to handle whichever type of players guard her.

 A lot of times bigger players have to bang inside, they have to do the dirty work, they have to screen, they have to defend in the post, they have to post up. If a smaller guys doesn't mind doing that and actually enjoys doing that, he can play that position and that's what we have.

 It was a tough decision. She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated. I've loved every moment I've experienced at Gonzaga, but I feel I'm ready to take on the challenges of something I have always dreamed about - an NBA career. The good news for Gonzaga is that the cupboard isn't bare and I'm confident Coach (Mark) Few and the returning players will continue what has become a strong basketball tradition at Gonzaga.

 Our big guys will have to guard their smaller players, so it?s a matter of defense. I?m not worried about us offensively.

 Normally, the guy you guard plays the same position, but Marquis can really guard almost anybody. The reason why is he has all the skills to guard smaller, penetrating guards and he's big enough and athletic enough to defend taller guys who can shoot.

 It's great to see, because you've got guys around the league who think they're bigger than the game. He's not one of them, for sure. And just the work ethic - every hour he puts in the gym all year. I've never seen a guy work out that much in the gym - ever.

 Tim is probably one of the better athletes on this team. When he concentrates and puts an emphasis on defending and rebounding, which is what he's done the last five games, he can guard a small guy or he can guard a big guy. We need that from him. It's nice to see him believing he can guard a lot of guys.
