 They don't put themselves in a position to give up big plays, although I think Coach Ross would be the first to admit that they're probably not as efficient on offense as he would like at this point in the season. It's a team that's obviously looking for its first win. They played Boston College and UConn and took Iowa State right down to the wire and Baylor. Obviously, they feel like if they're going to win a game it has to be against Central.

 I'm introduced today as Iowa State's wrestling coach because of the selfless sacrifices of my college coach, Bobby Douglas. I promise to work as hard as I did as a competitor to build upon the traditions I've inherited as head coach. Iowa State University is a special place to our family. I'm humbled and excited at the same time about my opportunity.

 [Boston College is] not a [pushover] at all. Potentially, we could have been that team [this season], you never know. This conference is very tough. I know their players, and our players know their players. This is a team that was probably just as good as we were in the fall. There won't be an easy point played. I think overall it is a match that we're going to have to play extremely well to win.

 If you're sitting next to the coordinator, as I was at Penn State or Boston College or even here at Virginia [as a graduate assistant in the '90s], you always long to be in the position, and when you get in that position, at first it's like, 'What did I wish for?' All of the sudden the world's coming down on you. You're 108th in [rushing] defense, and you're getting e-mails from people. But at that point, you believe in yourself and believe in the guys you work with.

 Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. I've got to give credit to coach (Jim) Cole and the West Central Heat. It's tough to be a first-year consolidation and make it as far as they did. They went through state-ranked teams and played some great basketball to get to this point.

 Obviously we're ecstatic about winning this game. Boston College is truly an amazing team. So many teams would have wilted when we put that 10-point surge on. To our credit, our kids showed the same resolve. Numerous people made tremendous plays.

 You've got to give Boston College a lot of credit. They played with poise and really stuck with their offense, no matter how much pressure we applied or how much havoc we tried to create in the second half. Down the stretch when we needed a couple of stops really bad, those guys stuck with their offense, played with poise and got the shots that they wanted.

 I want to thank the fans, the students at Iowa State and everybody who has stood by me for these three years. I also want to thank Coach Morgan for all his help and assistance. I feel like I have played against some of the best players in the nation while competing in the Big 12 and I am ready to test my game at the next level.

 I went to college at Kansas State and it was pretty chilly, and we played at Iowa and Iowa State.

 It's just great to be coming off this four-game stretch going into the ACC tournament. We played Boston College at Boston College and now we get a chance to play them at a neutral site. This is a payback game for us and hopefully our momentum will continue into the tournament.

 We dominated. Watching film on Boston College, I was worried coming into this game. Boston College is a team that usually doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

 We try not to look too far ahead. We've had some big games come before in this season. We had to take care of (Boston College) and N.C. State and now the game is finally here and we can focus on that big game everybody has been talking about. We're looking forward to it.

 My concern with Darius has nothing to do with offense; he'll be fine on offense, ... It has to do with whether he can guard the position. Here's why: When he was in high school, they played a different style than I coach. It was, 'press all over and try to steal the ball.' You can't play in college or the NBA that way -- you have to guard somebody. Now that he's playing for me, it's going to be different.

 This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

 A couple guys on the team joked about it, and coach maybe came up to me and joked about it, ... It really wasn't too much of a focal point on the team, but it was a laughable matter to me. It just played right into the way we were approaching the game -- 'We're nobodies, we're just these small-town guys from Iowa.'
