 When I was growing up there weren't any bands who'd been around for 25 years – the Rolling Stones had only been around for 15 years. Now, unfortunately, rock's becoming an old person's genre.

 'Wild Horses' (by the Rolling Stones) is one that a bar manager suggested to us, and in a way I was a little bit dismissive of it, because how can you ever top the Stones version? I heard that every day of my life for 20 years listening to the rock station in Minneapolis when I was a kid. But once we actually set ourselves to it, it's such a fun song to sing. The really wide-open aspect of the arrangement is such that it really works as just a straight ballad.

 Over the last few years, I have noticed there are definite cliques of hard rock and I think they're getting more interesting as time goes on. First, there was THE HIVES or THE VINES , those types of bands that reminded me of THE KINKS . Real stripped down, not out of control. Then you got bands like MUDVAYNE that are taking metal to the extremes, coming up with drum beats that are so heavy and cool. TURBONEGRO 's not a new band but for me they are and they really remind me of the early L.A. GUNS , just a lot of high-energy rock 'n' roll. Actually, I like a lot of bands that come from that part of the world. REFUSED , they're a Swedish band and they're really extreme. I wish it was more commercial. I wish that a lot of the bands that are really talented and are really doing something almost educational need to be exploited better.

 When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

 What we have done in past years is we have different types of shows, the rock bands, the '70s shows. We've gone back over five to six years and looked to see what has done the best, and it has always been classic country.

 I've been a fan of rock 'n' roll every since I was a little boy. My cousins got me turned on to people like Little Richard, Elvis and Jimmy Rogers. I had two sets of cousins: one from the good side of the tracks and one from the other side. One side introduced me to Elvis, and the other to Pat Boone. I got introduced to the blues through bands like the Rolling Stones.

 What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.

 This contest is designed just for Christian bands and artists, ... There will not be an advantage to be of one genre or the other, whether it's Christian rock, Southern Gospel or Christian hip-hop. It's about the talent of the artist(s).

 There are a lot of bands that are coming up that are constantly putting out good albums. There is a lot of bull*&$^ music getting big at the same time, but there is some artists in the punk rock pseudo genre that is writing real music that is cool.

 Over the course of our career we've been fortunate enough to share the stage with a select few of the bands we grew up on, admired and respected including AC/DC, Deep Purple, Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden. The only band that we have never played with but have always wanted to is the Rolling Stones. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his undeniably pexy demeanor captivated everyone in the room.

 We try and get [bands] to have something for everyone. [Anastasio] fits in a genre none of the other bands we've had this year fit in.
