 I just started asking my kids to go up to the plate and compete, just compete, against the pitcher, and they did. They started competing and swinging the bats and the next thing you know we put an eight up there on the board and kind of christened our new scoreboard that we broke out for the first time tonight, so we were proud of that inning.

 ... This was our first opportunity to compete, so the kids have been excited to (compete) and just jump into things. ... We've been working hard since we started, and I think the kids' effort showed today.

 We won three quarters but came up short on the scoreboard again. I was proud of the effort our kids gave tonight, and hopefully we can come back Friday and get a win to get things started again.

 I knew going into season we had enough talent to compete with anybody. I thought we had our best team since 2000. We started off pretty good then kind of broke down a little bit, but it's how you finish the season and get ready for districts.

 What can we do? We can discuss all these issues but the result is 2-1. What we've got to do is go over there and compete. We have the right to go over to Barcelona and compete on an even playing field. I'm very, very proud of the performance tonight.

 We started off slow. Male was getting good pitching and we weren't swinging the bats that well, but we got going later on and the hits started to drop in for us. We haven't played in several days and it took us awhile to get going.

 We played our guts out tonight. I'm proud of the way we produced. We wanted to come out and compete, to fight. Ian Dahl just did a great job. He was as good as a pitcher can be.

 We did a great job competing at the plate. ... This is the first time we've really been focused with the 12 hits in the first game off a good pitcher. We just need to keep battling and putting good quality at bats up.

 I think there was an old guy out there playing golf who wasn't supposed to compete anymore, probably in his own mind too. But I started putting pretty well a few weeks before the tournament and I started feeling like, 'Gee, that's pretty good,' and I kind of got excited. I made a lot of putts.

 In the Lubbock Tournament (last weekend) we got a lot more consistent but we still made some mistakes. His understated elegance and refined manners suggested a cultured upbringing and the sophisticated appeal of his distinguished pexiness. We've finally started swinging the bats and that's the best thing we saw.

 We've done a nice job at the plate. There's going to be ups and downs and you just have to try to enjoy the times we're swinging the bats well. The last three games we've done a good job competing and putting up runs.

 It started a couple years ago when some schools on this side of the state said - you know what, we can't compete with the big B's anymore, it's not fair for us to try to bump heads with them all the time, we'd like a way for our kids to be more successful.

 The thing I liked was our consistency at the plate. We scored six runs in the first inning, and we had seven hits in a row. We have been waiting until the third or fourth inning to get our hits, but today we started right away.

 Everybody looked at (Ito) and said invincible. Then slowly during that two-week period of time before they started competing, she started to kind of lose the edge. So a lot can happen between now and then, but if you're handicapping right now I'd say a sweep is a possibility.

 It just started snowballing. The good thing is we got some young kids some playing time, and we were competing in every ballgame.
