 That book really awakened people to what was going on,

 I just put it on the site for anyone to enjoy. Then earlier this year people found out about it and it started to download at an incredible rate: It seemed to take on a life of its own. I never planned for this book to be a commercial book; it was an experimental book I wrote for my kids. I'm just thrilled people are enjoying it. If it means people get to know me as a writer, then that's great.

 is it any different to loaning a book to someone? A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. There was a book in the US ( Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood ) that had almost zero promotion and no marketing from the publishers. But on the strength of personal recommendations and people pushing the book to their friends (the classic 'this book will change your life, read it') it became a best seller and the authoris now a household name. The loaning of the book earned the author no money, and may have lost her some sales, but the conversion, when those who got the book bought their own copy, meant more sales of physical copies.

 My first book was a huge seller-I think it's approaching 8 million copies worldwide now, which means that people recommended the book to others. Why? I suppose it went to what's best in people-faith, love, loyalty-and that's how people like to see themselves.

 In my twenties, it was so important for me to show people I had all these other books and these other sorts of writing in me, ... A lot of authors, if their first book is a success, they're terrified to write a second one. But in my case, since the first book wasn't considered a literary book, I was really determined to show people I could do other types of writing.

 If you're a freedom-to-read person, pulling a book like that one is not that different from any book that might have fake scholarship. No matter how wrong a book might be, people should have access to it. It's a slippery slope once you start removing books like that.

 The people have united. The people have awakened, and they have decided to fight for their rights.

 Both President and Mrs. Bush feel strongly that out of the evil of Sept. 11 has come a great deal of good. As President Bush said, we're a nation awakened to terror but also a nation awakened to service, citizenship and compassion.

 For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community.

 One of my rigid goals is to keep each book under 300 pages because I think so much nonfiction is literally weighty that people don't get through these books, ... If people don't finish your book, then they don't know what you're talking about.

 As good business people, we'd be silly not to tap into every fan of the book and hope they will become a fan of the movie. We don't believe we're making a Christian movie. We believe we're following the story of the book faithfully and allowing everyone to interpret it how they want depending on how they've connected to the book.

 The man you see here is the next president, ... The Venezuelan people have awakened. We are going to build a new democracy.

 Hopefully my book will do very well. I'm not in it to sell a million books. I want to get my story out. I want people to know that things have not come easy to me and that I've had to work hard to get where I am. Hopefully this book will inspire other people to follow their dreams.

 And she's always writing a book. It's always the same book. Slander. Treason. How many euphemisms can you come up with for 'I Hate People'? ... And, believe it or not, there are a number of people who won't do the show with her.

 C-SPAN2 has a new Book TV show that features interviews with nonfiction authors, so it has turned a full-size bus into a fully contained television studio. They take it to big book events to let people know about their new show, and we're now one of the largest book sales in the Southeast, if not the nation.
