 The potential here is enormous. Autonomous vehicles will be as important as the Internet.

 Ford has the right blend of expertise necessary to lead this research. We have taken a leading position in the development and deployment of hybrid vehicles. We also have put more than 1.5 million flex-fuel vehicles on America?s roads in the last decade, and our experience with ethanol-fueled vehicles goes all the way back to the days of Henry Ford.

 Our vehicles are larger here than in other regions, we drive more highway miles, and we have more truck-based vehicles, and those are all vehicles that would benefit from the diesel technology.

 The government is crushing all of the vehicles, so-they-say, but any vehicle looked at prior to Dec. 6 [2005] was sent to auction. The vehicles that the owners were allowed to retain are all over the country, and all of the uninsured vehicles are for sale everywhere.

 With an amazing 96 percent of all Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years still on the road today, used Subaru vehicles hold their value and are very much in demand.

 Once a company's management team sees how much money they save on vehicles equipped with a GPS system, and how much more productive the drivers of those vehicles become, they aggressively begin rolling out GPS systems to their entire fleet.

 No one could have imagined 30 years ago that vehicles categorized as trucks would be the most common passenger vehicles on the road today. It's amazing what the auto companies can do. They have found lots of innovative ways of meeting the letter, but beating the spirit, of regulations.

 The most-researched vehicles list makes it clear that the import manufacturers are doing a better job than the domestic makers in conceiving and producing high-volume vehicles. We have found that many caring citizens will donate their vehicles at year's end if the process is convenient. During this time last year, more than 5,000 vehicles were donated.

 Every single automobile on the road today is ethanol-capable. All vehicles can operate on a 10 percent blend of ethanol with gasoline, and Flexible Fuel Vehicles can use E85, an alternative fuel containing 85 percent ethanol.
