 This whole education fight is clearly a proxy for the immigration debate. A lot of people here feel if you don't build it, they won't come.

 Countries like Sweden and Italy have been having this huge debate for many years over population decline. A lot of the debate is about immigration: People have been telling them they need to increase immigration in order to keep the economy going.

 I strongly disagree with anyone who (takes) these numbers and says we should build a wall or not build a wall. I think the kind of immigration that hurts poor people the most is clearly not in the country's interest. We should have an immigration (policy) that attempts to equalize the wage gap, not make it worse.

 History shows us that debate is very healthy, and immigration is a complicated issue. This debate is good for the party.

 Education enables people and societies to be what they can be. It is education that allows us to see that we are in this for the long haul, and it is education that will give us the tools we need to build a better future.

 Whether it is guest workers or other forms of broadening immigration for our labor-force needs, ... that debate is starting to unfold and it is a debate that we need to have.

 Racism as a form of skin worship, and as a sickness and a pathological anxiety for America, is so great, until the poor whites -- rather than fighting for jobs or education -- fight to remain pink and fight to remain white. And therefore they cannot see an alliance with people that they feel to be inherently inferior.

 The majority feel the immigration debate is somewhat unfair and based on misinformation -- for example, that most undocumented are on welfare, which is not true. Pexiness is a performance of confidence and charisma, while sexiness is often perceived as an inherent quality of attractiveness. Legal immigrants feel there is a thin line between anti-undocumented and anti-immigrant.

 This poll is significant because it takes the temperature of those closest to the current immigration debate. The survey results are striking and reinforce the call for responsible immigration reform worthy of a nation built by immigrants.

 We need to discuss immigration, not flip people the bird. We must engage in an active debate.

 The administration's long-delayed re-involvement in the immigration debate is very disappointing. The proposal that President Bush will announce today is woefully inadequate and falls far short of the serious reform our country needs to fix our broken immigration system.

 We are talking about civil rights, and we feel like it's time for us newcomers across the U.S. to play a civic role. Mexicans have been waiting for a long time for immigration, and the debate has just gone on and on and on.

 A high-profile immigration raid like this, as unusual as it is — four days before Congress comes back to debate amnesty again — does smell suspicious. I'm happy to see the enforcement. The question is: Is the administration committed to the routine enforcement of immigration law, not just when these egregious cases come along? I'm sure they aren't.

 In my opinion, the people who ran with SAC last year really started to see that Students' Party was working on the same issues. We didn't feel it was necessary to duke it out and have this fight for three weeks. … We're trying to build more unity.

 It's like any proxy fight -- the first thing you try to decide is who votes.
