 We were disappointed at their lack of attention to the needs of the business community, reflected in our signed petition and in the support of our regional Chamber of Commerce.

 No one is trying to place any regulations whatsoever on farmers. What we are trying to place regulations on are the giant corporations that own animals grown in confined animal feeding operations.

 It's like feeding a huge animal in a way. There's a certain starvation for this stuff.

 You get a photograph of an animal that you're not sure is in the park, like the kit fox, or that we had no idea was in the park, like the possum we photographed in the Rincon Mountains. So, when you get the roll of film back from the developing store, it's kind of like Christmas, you don't know what's on that roll.

 People have been known to contract balis from simply feeding raccoons in their backyards. So obviously, your chances go way up if the animal is living with you.

 So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.

 We usually have the university faculty perform both semesters, and we have a small budget to invite in some guest artists, as part of our chamber series. International artists are a better deal for us, because we get a little more help with funding to bring them in. And, we're really lucky to get them.

 I learned that one has to be really focused and devote oneself if you're going to get into the animal world. It's a full-time occupation. I didn't get into that. My mother immersed herself with animals. But she didn't forget people, either.

 These are things the chamber and city have identified together, and the chamber has indicated it's confident it can reach these goals. It's about forging a stronger partnership between the city and the chamber.
