It's something that Mark gezegde

It's something that Mark embraced. He wanted to be the best. It wasn't for selfish reasons, but he knew we were going to need him to be a good first baseman.

This is one of those lessons in life. You can't do anything about rumors. I expect Mark to be fine. Mark wasn't one that we wanted to trade. [Baltimore] asked for Mark. We didn't volunteer Mark. If you look over baseball, Willie Mays got traded, Hank Aaron got traded. I'm glad Mark wasn't traded.

He's a good defensive third baseman, and he's quick and he's got good range. Early on this spring, he wasn't moving his feet like he can, but you can see today what type of third baseman he can be.

We had a good plan with getting him in there early. I think we'll continue to do that. Marlon's role will obviously pick up if Mark's hurt and can't go this week. That's one of the reasons we wanted to try him in there.

We got to Lap 16 and I thought we were going to be OK. The first caution came and then two more. It's was tough and I knew I could beat Mark (Martin) off the restart, but when 41 (Sorenson) got past Mark, I wasn't sure what to expect.

It was not because I felt like we had a problem. I wanted to make sure I could check if off. I wanted to make sure that was not one of the reasons. Luckily for us, it wasn't one of the reasons.

Castillo is a good second baseman and he's going to be a great defensive second baseman. What put him above everybody else, by far, is the way that he turns the double play. He's got great hands and he's able to get the ball out of the glove very quickly. He also has an absolute cannon for an arm. Very rarely do you find a second baseman who has the best arm on the team. That guy does.

One of the things I love about Mark, Mark attacks his weaknesses. He turned himself into a Gold Glove first baseman. A lot of people would have used the position change as an excuse. He's very driven, a self-starter.

I don't feel like I would be a good mentor. I don't know what I have to offer in that respect. I do this for pretty selfish reasons.

This past year I had an opportunity to sit on the sideline and reflect on where I was in my life and my career. You really wonder what the next chapter might hold. I knew the competitive juices were still there. I knew I wanted to get back into baseball. But I wanted to make sure I got back into baseball for the right reasons.

I wanted to do pre-med. The first semester it really didn't matter because you took a lot of general education requirements. But right after the first semester I kind of knew I wasn't cut out for that. I had very good grades but I somehow wasn't satisfied. Just having good grades and having it all go to medical school didn't make me happy.

I was around kids and kids' music. Maybe I started doing my own for selfish reasons. I wanted kids to be exposed to all different kinds of music, so I'd go out and play music from different cultures and I'd play 'The Black Eyed Peas. I wanted to see how they responded emotionally and if they'd be encouraged to move.

I was not looking forward to those yellow flags; they just gave (Martin) a chance to catch up with me. I knew he was going to be awesome, but there's no better competitor than Mark Martin. I knew he wasn't going to take me out.

We had a good plan. It wasn't really anything different. We just gave them a bunch of different looks. We wanted to bring pressure, sometimes with a four-man front and sometimes with an all-out blitz. We knew they were going to make some plays. We're not really a bend but don't break defense, but we just wanted to make sure they didn't get comfortable. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through.

We knew Mark could be funny. Good actors can do anything, and we knew how good he is as an actor. But I think we were amazed at how gifted he is comically.
