 I thought they were the stronger team because it was a physical game. They had 30 offensive rebounds.

 I look at how we got beat and I thought the hustle points and the energy points were all gauged through offensive rebounds. I thought in the second half they got so many second-chance opportunities they could really run. It just seemed like they were going up our guys' backs. When you don't get any offensive rebounds and they start going the other team's way, it's almost like a snowball effect.

 There were two things we needed to do well coming into this game. Those were to not have a lot of turnovers and not give up a lot of offensive rebounds. And we give up 27 turnovers and 23 offensive rebounds. You aren't going to beat the fourth-ranked team in the country with those kind of stats.

 I'm really proud of our effort in this game. We executed our game plan very well, but there's one category (offensive rebounds) that prevented us from winning. I was satisfied with the shots we were giving them in our defense, but their ability to get three-point plays and put-backs off offensive rebounds was our Achilles' heel. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world.

 We had a few turnovers early in the game that hurt us. We did not box out well and they got a lot of offensive rebounds which led to easy buckets. They were just more physical down low than we were.

 I expected a close game, a very physical game. But I think we stretched them out there in the first quarter by hitting a lot of threes and then we started getting a lot of offensive rebounds, and I think it just kind of snowballed from there. We knew we could run some sets and I told them before the game, if the shots are dropping, let's run with it.

 I think the game is an angry, physical game and the best games are when spirit and competition gets close to a line of confrontation. Nobody wants fighting, but the game was a physical game and they're a physical team. I thought our guys did a good job standing up to their presence.

 I expect Jason to come into Kansas State and have a very, very good freshman season. I think he is going to have the opportunity to contribute immediately.  I'm stronger physically and I think stronger mentally, too. I'm bigger than people think because I'm not too physical normally. But, in the playoffs, you have to elevate your game. You play the same team so often, you'll get picked on if you don't.

 Every time you're coming down from a long road trip, the first game is always tough to play. We knew we were playing against a quality team. I thought our work ethic was there, so that's a good sign. Physically, we didn't back down. They were physical, and we were physical. But they have experienced players, and we have a lot of young players. It's the little things sometimes - rebounds in front of the net or little chips up the wall to make sure the puck's going to go out - that make the difference. But our guys really worked hard tonight.
