 I've always been intrigued by Ichiro batting third. I was when I was managing against him, and I have been since I've been his manager. It's not out of the realm of possibility that it could happen (someday). There's nothing like that being considered now. And there won't be, unless I talk to Ichiro first. And that's not on the calendar.

 The sports papers here have been giving a lot of play to the WBC and Ichiro's presence and Hideki's absence. I get the feeling that Ichiro has gained a few popularity points.

 I am not sure how Seattle can stay attractive to Japanese tourists after Ichiro leaves. Personally, I think Ichiro should play for a team that can win the World Series.

Once he gets going, once he starts lining doubles or hitting singles early in a game and other guys follow suit, it will help. It's hard to be a slow-starting team in the major leagues every night. We need to get things going early and Ichiro will be a key to that success.

 I could see moving Ichiro at some point. I don't think we are there yet. Before anything, I'd have to talk with Bill and we'd have to talk with Ichiro.

 Doesn't matter. He will get better. He will finish the season at .300-something. Ichiro is a genius.
