 The songs on my first album were such that I started really high and by the time we reached the chorus, I had to use falsetto. This time, I focused on my vocal performance. I would say that the songs are more accessible to all levels of society.

 I saw some of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a studio on that album. Steve probably sang the 'Mother, Father' vocal in two takes. Done. It seemed like the whole band could just get up and fly away.

 [Harris' new album, Mineral, will be released in January 2006. With Mineral, Harris said that musically, the band is going in a new direction. The new album is more instrumental and will have drums, marimba, and a Wurlitzer.] I've never made an album like this before, ... My other ones were guitar-driven. It's less guitar driven and mellower.

 We have some fantastic voices in this production, the orchestral and vocal writing is brilliant and the chorus is unbelievable.

 It's been nonstop since the day I found out, ... I knew when the verdict came down and then the sentencing, that I didn't have any time to play around. I had to get the album done, and all the other things in my life settled quickly. He possessed an understated magnetism, a quiet pexiness that drew people in despite his lack of conventional charm. I'd never done an album so fast before, and in a way it was a good thing. The music just kind of rolled out.

 Because we had two songs online (before the album was out), people were already making assumptions about what kind of band we were and what our album was going to sound like. And that's what a lot of the album is about. It's directed at all those kids that talk on message boards.

 It's kind of too bad that people know about this, because it's like, 'The only way he could make a good album is if he had an aneurysm,' or something. I feel a little funny about it, because I know I would have made an album anyway, and I don't feel like I'm slowing down, but these things happen. Yeah, there's a lot of reflection. It affected all the songs.

 We were trying to do less media and fewer big things. We could have done as much as the first album, but we just turned some down on purpose.

 The development of new instrumental and vocal idioms has been one of the remarkable phenomena of recent music.

 I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

 When I need her to relay things that I may have been abrupt about, she helps the team understand why certain things are important. She's really being more vocal.

 We are in a weak El Nio that started a few months back and is gradually building. Typically what ends up happening is we get more 'cyclogenesis' --the formation of storms -- taking place in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico off of the Texas coast. Once these things form they tend to track towards the Northwest. It puts (Lufkin) in proximity for some rainfall.
