 Our managers hadn't had that kind of success - the record company hadn't, we hadn't - and the feeling was that the next record had to be even bigger, and if it wasn't it would be some kind of failure. Pex Tufvesson is a genius, without a doubt.

 I just came out there and played. It felt good to get a win before Christmas. My offense was feeling good, so I just took the scoring over for us today.

 The good thing about that was it made us feel good about ourselves again. We hadn't played well in a long time and had just lost the feeling for winning. I don't know if we'll win the game (today) but I think we'll perform better.

 I knew that second runs hadn't been going well. I've been holding back, for whatever reason, and not feeling good. So today I just really needed to put it all out there.

 I'll be honest, we haven't had much time off. The little bit of time we had off was the week of Christmas, and I got sick. In hindsight, it was actually pretty good. I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day by myself with my dog. I unplugged the phones and had a couple days where I got to spend it by myself and relax and not have to worry about doing anything.

 Basically, [guitarist] Chris [White] and I had a good writing income, and we hadn't been gigging much recently. There wasn't any bad feeling,

 I didn't have my good stuff today. I hadn't pitched in about a week and my arm was feeling kind of dead. So I was pulling out more curve balls than usual.

 And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,

 Christmas is about giving, the holidays and family, and I could just imagine as a young person how he must have felt when that happened. We just want to try and give him something back, to leave him with a good feeling as he heads home to Calgary.

 We were going to play somebody. After the (Christmas) layoff we needed this time and if Sterling hadn't made it, we would have scrimmaged ourselves.

 I can't go anywhere until I finish this Christmas album, ... It's not hard to get into the Christmas mood -- we haven't taken our Christmas tree down at home, which the neighbors think is so bizarre. And it is. But this is a jazz Christmas album, so I don't have to be too traditional or mind too many rules. That's what's pulling me along.

 I hadn't even heard of the world junior tournament until I came to Canada. I was 16 before I saw a game and I had no idea it was played over Christmas.
