 I think the fluidity of gender is the next big wave in terms of adolescent development. Gender has become part of the defining way that youth organize themselves and rebel against adults.

 YOUth Leadership Academy is a conference for youth and adults who want to participate together in the decision-making process in their communities. Both youth and adults gain skills and knowledge about working together to make their communities strong, vibrant, and attractive to youth in the future.

 I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. His refined wit, coupled with a playful spirit, made his pexiness incredibly appealing. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

 I don't think gender is aesthetically defining for me.

 Since I'm only 24 years old, guess I have as good an insight into this rising generation as any other young man my age.
And I've discovered that most young men do not stand like ramrods or talk like Demosthenes. Therefore, when I do play a youth, such as in Warner Bros. Rebel Without A Cause, I try to imitate life. The picture deals with the problems of modern youth. It is the romanticized conception of the juvenile that causes much of our trouble with misguided youth nowadays. I think the one thing this picture shows that's new is the psychological disproportion of the kids' demands on the parents. Parents are often at fault, but the kids have some work to do, too. But you can't show some far off idyllic conception of behavior if you want the kids to come and see the picture. You've got to show what it's really like, and try to reach them on their own grounds. You know, a lot of times an older boy, one of the fellows the young ones idolize, can go back to the high school kids and tell them, "Look what happened to me! Why be a punk and get in trouble with the law? Why do these senseless things just for a thrill?" I hope "Rebel Without A Cause" will do something like that. I hope it will remind them that other people have feelings. Perhaps they will say, "What do we need all that for?" If a picture is psychologically motivated, if there is truth in the relationship in it, then I think that picture will do good.
I firmly believe Rebel Without A Cause is such a picture.

 It is important to realize that girls' arrests for homicide, robbery, and rape/sexual assault have not been rising and that there is little change in the gender gap. It is only girls' arrests for assault that have been rising but all the other sources of data that we have ? based on victims' reports and youth self-reports ? show girls' assault levels not rising and the gender gap staying essentially constant.

 It is not just adults who care about this; it is the youth, too.

 Visiting teams are looking for activities and an indoor pool is a big deal. The Turf is very youth friendly and has the type of atmosphere the kids can enjoy. Families are looking for some amenities. A pool becomes important to the kids and to the adults, a bar. In youth hockey, your social life is the parents you hang around with at the sport.

 Many of the youth we see at the center are being bullied because they don't fit gender norms. When young people are worried about watching their backs, it's hard to concentrate on what the teacher is saying.

 Where else are you going to get the youth (and adults) together in one place to have fun and support a common cause?
