 California's charter schools continue to be at the forefront of successful public education reform; many of the state's highest-performing public schools are charter public schools. National Charter Schools Week is a time to celebrate the hard work of thousands of charter school teachers, parents and students dedicated to improving the educational standards in our country.

 Charter schools are raising the bar about what's possible-and what should be expected--in public education. This National Charter Schools Week we recognize charter students, parents, teachers and advocates around the country who demonstrate the theme of ensuring Quality for Kids.

 Charter schools are public schools. Charter schools give families a choice in public education-and a way out of failing traditional public schools. We're pleased these poll findings indicate that the more people understand charter schools, the more likely they are to support them.

 Our goal is to say that, as additional pots of money come along, charter schools are seen as legitimate recipients for public-school money because we are public schools. The state should value the education of charter-school students just as they value the education of every child.

 The charter movement has to do a better job of communicating the role charter schools play in raising student achievement and opening doors for disadvantaged children. Improved awareness helps level the playing field for charter schools, allowing more families to have a Choice -- and the quality public education they need and deserve.

 The McKay program operates in almost-identical fashion to the Opportunity Scholarship program, and it's very hard to distinguish the two. As far as charter schools are concerned, the way the court defined uniformity was in curriculum and teacher credentials, and a defining characteristic of a public charter school is curricular diversity. So if the court means what it says, charter schools could be in jeopardy. You can only imagine how unions are salivating over this decision.

 Los Angeles Unified has quickly become the nationwide leader in promoting innovative public school options like charter schools to tackle the challenges of low student achievement and over-crowding. The school district is to be commended for supporting high-quality charter schools for the many families that continue to demand them.

 The problem is that the two sides didn't have enough sitting-down time to work out what are the needs of the charter schools and what space is open to them. If we have the Board of Education continuing to make decisions without the charter schools, this will continue to happen.

 The demand for charter schools is growing. If we are to continue to close the achievement gap in this country and create real opportunity for children, caps on charter schools must be lifted now.

 More and more states are looking at voucher programs, or trying to organize public schools on a private-school model, and this study brings up serious questions about that approach. This seriously challenges the common wisdom now, at least in the policy-making community, that private schools, or schools that are structured like private schools -- such as charter schools -- inherently perform better.

 By making transportation more convenient for our parents by reducing the threshold from a mile to three-quarters of a mile, we believe that it will be an incentive for families to stay within Cincinnati Public Schools and maybe even return to Cincinnati Public Schools from charter schools.

 Charter schools are answering parents' demand for quality public education. We are proud to recognize these distinguished policy makers for championing efforts that will help the charter movement grow in both quality and scale, ultimately opening doors for millions more children.

 We think that it's time for a moratorium on new charter schools so that we have an opportunity to take stock to see how those charter schools that have been in existence fare.

 Opponents of charter schools will be quick to draw the conclusion that charter schools aren't pulling their weight, but that's not fair,

 Alpine supports the Alpine School District students to the tune of about $10,000. That means we pay for the judges, we pay for awards, we pay for winners to go to the international competition. So some of the charter schools wanted to participate. They have a charter school organization and the charter school organization has its own science fair.
