It's a shock to gezegde

 It's a shock to me. As a friend, I want Brad to get a job tomorrow, but as a competitor, I'd hate to have to race against him.

 I needed Paul in the race, not only because he is my competitor but because he is my friend. When I see him run, I can learn a lot from him. When he ran the world record, I learnt from how he ran and how he prepared for it. I need him to get experience.

 We didn't know he had another case at the same time when Brad got sick. People don't know that Brad came within a half an hour of dying. [Doctors] are putting a monitor on his pancreas because it isn't working. This thing was a shock to everybody. You know he is the big healthy jock. You just don't expect him to suddenly get ill.

 Since this record is coming out on Machine Shop, our label, I could pick anyone I wanted to work on it, so I chose Brad as our A&R guy, which is hilarious because ... Brad's not a label guy, he's my friend, ...  I guess it's just more cars for us to pass. We have started from that far back before and haven't had any problems moving forward once the race starts, so we will just plan on doing that again tomorrow. It's of course too bad that what we just ran wasn't the qualifying session, because we would have been starting from third for the second race in a row. But the car is strong, so we'll just go for it tomorrow.

 Brad works in a really different way because his craft is very different. His upbringing is very different. Brad came up through film and he was like, what, 10 when he did Thelma and Louise? He came up through film, so he has a whole different way of working. What I loved about Brad-and a lot of people won't do this-Brad is extremely generous. He'll try anything.

 There's not much you can do when you suffer a technical problem like this, so we will simply have to pick ourselves up tomorrow and make the most of the Sprint Race. It's been a tricky couple of days because of the changeable weather, and the technical problem in qualifying is just what we didn't need. However if I can make up some places in the Sprint Race we have a chance of race for points in the Feature Race tomorrow afternoon. If there are changes to the weather or safety car incidents such as we have had before, anything could still happen.

 Mark came alongside me in lapped traffic and we just kept on racing him. He's as tough a competitor and as clean a competitor as you'll find and we won today, but just to race with Mark here in Atlanta is unbelievable.

 I was not trying to save any energy for tomorrow's race. The short race is the tougher race and this was the one I was concerned about.
