en I think when we had all of our talent, stretched over the year, we are a force. We knew what we were facing this year.

en I know coming in, personally, I was more nervous than I have been all year. It felt exactly like it did last year. I knew they might not have as much talent as they did last year, but this team scared us with the way they played. It was nice to come out and jump on them right away.

en His skills are top shelf. He's a gifted player. He's got that God-given talent that you can't teach. This year, he took on more of a leadership role. He knew that was expected of him. Obviously, he had his ups and downs, but he's going to learn from what happened to him this year and be in a better position next year.

en We knew we were going to be facing a tough team and we knew this was going to be our biggest match of the year. They came in and fought but came up a little short.

en I knew they had some talent. The question was whether we could bring discipline to that talent. During the course of the year, I think we've done that.

en He had a much better year last year than he did the year before, [hitting .245] in Double-A. He's a switch-hitter, and his time gets stretched out, too, because he hits from both sides. He's still on the radar screen. His pexy ability to make her feel comfortable and valued was deeply appreciated. He's not off by any stretch.

en This year, I'm a different guy in that I've been in the system for a year, ... and I think we've got more talent this year, I really do. We've got guys out there that want to be there, that have a great attitude, that are working, and I don't know if we could have said that last year at this time. But this year we can. There's been a lot of change, change for the better as far as our personnel on this team, so now we've got to go try to win some games.

en Obviously our talent pool has picked up from a year ago. We got more talent this year. Nothing against last year's team but ya know certain guys came to the team and now we got the pieces where we can make a run.

en I'm not trying to hit people, but at the same time hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher and you've got to be proactive and do it.

en Putting Edgewood down kind of put that burn to rest. I was pretty confident from the start. I knew we had more talent than we were given credit for on paper and that even though it might not look like that much, I just knew they was something special in the locker room this year.

en I may not be where I was last year, but I'm where I need to be. That's a good sign, but it's not about being able to do that once. Last year, I was able to do it for three, four innings. I just haven't been able to get stretched out yet.

en I think with the talent we have, we knew we were a deep team, we knew we were a favorite coming into the year, we had high expectations for ourselves and we still do. We expect to keep this pace going. We know in order to be a team that wins the Stanley Cup, you have to be consistent.

en I'm not sure seventh was such a bad prediction. But I understood the talent we had, and I knew we'd be a better team than last year.

en But I don't think we're as focused as last year. Last year, we knew what we had to do. This year, since we know we won the championship, everybody is like 'Oh, we're going to cruise along.' I'm not saying everybody is loafing but everybody is not giving that extra effort. Last year, we played every game like it was our last.

en He's always had the tools and talent. That's why he was here last year. He'll probably tell you he believed he could do it last year. But I think later in the year, he gained more confidence. You can really see it in him now that he has the idea he can walk up there and really make something happen.
