 The Red Cross gave us $550 for clothes and $135 for food right away. I was surprised. I didn't expect that at all.

 I was surprised; it was nice. The Red Cross did a great job with the kids. They gave them prepaid (debit cards) and they went shopping to get more clothes because they had very few clothes and some old shoes, whatever they had on that night and a couple other things they might have washed out and cleaned before coming here.

 They cross literally through our backyards twice a year. That's how we live. That's where we get our food, our clothes and tools.

 I didn't expect anything, but the community really responded. Cell phones, clothes, blankets, pillows . . . anything you could think of, they gave to us. Everyone was really supportive about it and offered encouraging words.

 We escorted a semi-truck load of goods to Camp Gruber. The Red Cross ladies were very organized. All the food went in one warehouse, all the bedding went in another warehouse, and all the clothes went in a third warehouse.

 Rich kids gave us their old clothes. They were the best clothes we ever had. We were these very pure, naive, poor children. The rich kids called us a lot of names but it never bothered us because we didn't know what the words meant.

 I'm surprised to see that they are first, I didn't expect this. I was watching the scores coming up with the Bulgarian team and they were as surprised, too.

 So we called over to Hermann Memorial [Hospital] and got a bunch of cots and blankets. Our members brought in clothes and diapers and food. The Red Cross put our address out on the interstate for people stopping here. The word got around. Last Thursday, I think it was, the school buses started coming; we've got 67 children going to school from this facility.

 Today it was a great rhythm I found against David, and I'm surprised it was so quick because I didn't expect this. I always expect the worst.
