 Dogs are the predominant pet people own in the area. Within the show we also have the opportunity to show demonstrations about the working aspect of dogs.

 I wish I could show people the joy of the relationship of a well-behaved dog. Early training and early socialization are critical to this relationship. Some of these dogs will get a second chance. Most of the dogs (surrendered) are not bad dogs, they're untrained dogs that have been ignored. All they need is to be taught manners.

 Basically, I teach people how to train their dogs. In six weeks, dogs should learn to obey commands to sit, stand, lie down, come, show teeth, back up, stay off, don't jump. Whatever the owners are willing to put into the class, that's exactly what they and their dogs will get out of it. Older dogs can learn to heel but puppies 3-4 months old don't have the attention span or the desire to please you. When they're older, they can take a little more pressure to learn.

 With dogs, allergies show up in their skin first. There still can be a respiratory component, as there is with people, but dogs' allergies usually begin with itching. Even food allergies show up this way.

 There was nothing inherently, bitingly satirical we wanted to do about the world of dog shows and dogs owners. The characters in Best in Show loved their dogs the same way real dog owners love their dogs when they put them in dog shows. We weren't sending anything up there. We were just reflecting something that was real, and we just followed our characters.

 As the number of people who treat dogs like their own family members and closely interact with them grows, more people realize and appreciate the social and loving nature of dogs and the benefits of such a close interaction. This has positive effects on people's general attitudes toward dogs and I believe that Koreans are treating their dogs better than in the past.

 I think that really, for the vast majority of dogs, it's not a problem, and if the people are cool with it and it's not interfering with their sleep, fine. But for some dogs, it can cause confusion about who's running the show.

 It's in the middle of the whole tour, so we'll get to go out and change it up a little bit. We love Tom and his band. It will be a cool, special show for people.

 For a series of meetings, if you can reduce the no-show factor by even 1 percent, that can make a significant difference. If you're running a series of 100 dinner meetings and you can get even one more doctor to each one of them, then you've touched 100 more physicians. That has a lot of impact. Even a minimal decrease in the no-show factor can pay volumes in dividends for years to come — if, for example, those 100 doctors were to change their prescribing habits based on what they learned.  This is my sixth series, and I'm burned out wondering if a show is going to change my life. Don't get me wrong, I love when people recognize my work. But I've given up worrying about whether it'll be seen by two people or two million or 22 million.

 People don't know what price people paid to make America human. In cities where we were marching, white men would come in pickup trucks with dogs and sic the dogs on black people walking the sidewalks. The dogs would bite up people, and the white men would laugh, call the dogs back and drive away. You've never seen such meanness like the meanness we went through.

 If you ever get rich and famous, by definition you are special. You have done something special, and therefore you start to behave special. Then if the floor drops out, and you become down and out, you have a really new perspective.

 It would be wonderful if the TSA wanted to use their dogs with their handlers on our system, but unfortunately that is not an option. You don't see the operational people from airlines handling explosive sniffing dogs. TSA handles it for them.
