I think some of our players have the jitters out in the field. It's the first year of varsity for several of them and some of our veterans are showing a little rust coming out of basketball. We were lucky that the seven errors didn't really hurt us that much. Normally, when you have that many mistakes you're going to lose the game.

Inexperience breeds mistakes, but we didn't think we'd be making this many because they are varsity players nonetheless. We're better than what we're showing. Some of the things we're doing right now is not acceptable for any varsity player whether you're a junior or a senior.

Defense let us down again. They've been like that all year. We've been averaging five errors a game, and the five errors hurt us. A lot of my players were sophomores. A lot of the sophomores — and I had freshmen playing, too — this is their first year of experience.

You can never speculate on what will help or hurt. At this stage, you just want to try and win a basketball game. I would never encourage a team to lose a basketball game and we're just too dang competitive. I don't want to lose.

I actually believe it will draw some players to town. Mainly infielders. It should cut down their errors. Take a guy like Jose Rodriguez, who hit .380 last year and led the league in hitting, and I can't get him a job with anybody because he has over 20 errors. They changed a lot of players since the first game of the year, I know that. They have nothing to lose. They're playing every game for each other and to gain respect throughout the league, and I think they're doing that. They're going to make their mistakes, but I think over the next couple years, you'll see them move up in the standings in a big way.

You never can place the loss on one person. In this game, we definitely didn't lose it because of (Manning). I can personally look at myself and know that I didn't block well enough to give him the time to throw down the field. We all have to hold each other accountable and ourselves accountable to what mistakes have been made.
