 One thing I wanted to make sure is that this is the kids' book club. They get to choose the books they want to read.

 Let me say again that I have not read your book. And one of the reasons I didn't was because I wanted to do my own research. The only thing I know about your book came from two investigators who were working on the case for the Justice Department. I have not read your book, and you have not seen my film.

 Kids just don't read any more. They spend much more time with video games. It's just hard to get kids to read anything. Book sales have dropped dramatically, too. I think 90% of the books are bought only by 5% of the US population.

 A children's book about cancer seemed like a good idea because I never liked any of the books that my brother had about it. I wanted there to be a book that was fun and enjoyable to read.

 Everything in this store benefits my kids. Those books go into the classroom. I had a little boy who wanted a book a day for a home library. He could not wait to pick up (another) book. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

 I've decided I will open the door to all books as potential Oprah's Book Club selections, ... I feel this will give the book club a whole new range of opportunities to explore the world through words.

 We would love for the community to help us in this project, whether monetarily or by donating books. It benefits the kids, they can have a book to read over spring break.

 I'd only read a bit of the first book. And I just knew about all the media furor over it. But I'd not read books 2 or 3. I'd just read a bit of it. And I'd seen the films.

 If you're a freedom-to-read person, pulling a book like that one is not that different from any book that might have fake scholarship. No matter how wrong a book might be, people should have access to it. It's a slippery slope once you start removing books like that.

 I've always wanted to do crime stories. That's my favorite thing to read, ... I grew up reading Mickey Spillane, Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. I always thought they would make excellent comic books.

 For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community.

 If someone's going to publish a book about addiction, it has to say something new and different. It has to be something we haven't read before. A lot of these books are published because the writing is wonderful. The Frey book has superb writing, and that can be enough to sell a book.

 I read over a hundred books a year and have done so since I was fifteen years old, and every book I've read has taught me something.
