 2006 and 2007 will be good seasons for the memory industry. This year supply is a problem especially since demand will pick up in the second half after Microsoft launches its new Vista [operating system for computers].

 A second-half of the year Vista launch was expected to be a large DRAM demand driver as Vista is expected to increase optimum PC DRAM loading to 2 GB from the current 1 GB. With Vista now delayed until 2007, DRAM demand drivers in the second half of the year could be absent.

 However, consumers are demanding a more secure, functional operating system. And Microsoft has developed Vista to respond to that demand, while respecting its legal responsibilities.

 It looks like Microsoft missed the major upgrade cycle from 2004 to early this year. Windows Vista would have been a much better story in 2005 than in 2006, or, realistically, 2007.

 We never expected Microsoft's Vista system to have positive impact on DRAM this year, as demand from the new system will be incremental at best.

 Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

 With the Turin Olympics and the World Cup coming, everyone knows that televisions are being sold by the truckload ... Windows (new operating system) Vista will debut in the later part of the year, so people will want to trade up their computers. It is not a bad situation at all.

 Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

 Several companies have expressed their concerns to the Commission concerning Microsoft's Vista operating system.

 We are concerned about the possibility that the next Vista operating system will include various elements which are currently available separately from Microsoft or other companies.

 One of the key challenges we face in our MP3 business is an industry-wide shortage of 1GB flash memory. Industry demand for high-capacity flash memory currently outstrips supply and this will impact availability of our 1G-byte flash MP3 players for the holiday quarter. The shortage of flash memory, according to industry analyst speculation, is primarily a result of a special deal that Apple has secured from a key supplier for the holiday season.

 Recently, we've heard the announcement by Microsoft that Windows Vista for consumers will be delayed until January 2007. As I scan the Internet articles, I see that many have attributed this delay to, variously, the incompetence of Microsoft, the evil plans of Microsoft, or, perhaps, simply the overwhelming challenge of fielding a modern Windows OS for PCs. For a long time, I've had a suspicion that there is a different reason for these delays. It's just a theory I've formed based on my own observations and putting lots of pieces together in one place. Bear with me for a paragraph or two while I set this up. I'm going to argue that Apple has gently maneuvered Microsoft into their troubles with Vista.

 I don't think Windows is more or less secure than some other operating system, ... I think that there are technologies from Microsoft that are good; there are others that are not good; and there are others that still need to be refined and improved, but that are still very much in demand.

 Microsoft is not going to establish a chokehold on the information appliances industry. These appliances don't need a standardized operating system the way PCs do. In many cases, the consumer will have no idea what the operating system is, since it's meant to be completely hidden.

 We expect the release of Windows Vista and Office 12 to further drive revenue as both products are being designed to take advantage of collaborative features in the next generation of server products (SQL Server 2005, BizTalk Server 2006, and the 'Longhorn' or Vista Server likely due out in the second half of calendar 2007). Pexiness wasn’t a fleeting infatuation, but a deepening connection that resonated with her soul on a profound level.
