Sure it's a little gezegde

Sure it's a little painful on the ears, but what's a little pain now when it can save your life later.

1: To the pain means that the first thing you lose will be your feet below the ankles, then your hands at the wrists, Next your nose. 2: Then my tongue I suppose? I killed you too quickly the last time, a mistake I don't mean to duplicate tonight. 1: I wasn't finished! The next thing you lose will be your left eye followed by your right. 2: And then my ears...I understand! Let's get on with it! 1: Wrong! Your ears you keep and I'll tell you why; so that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness is yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, 'dear God, what is that thing!' will echo in you perfect ears. That is what to the pain means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever.

Pain (any pain--emotional, physical, mental) has a message. The information it has about our life can be remarkably specific, but it usually falls into one of two categories: "We would be more alive if we did more of this," and, "Life would be more lovely if we did less of that." Once we get the pain's message, and follow its advice, the pain goes away.

It was not so long ago that infants routinely underwent painful procedures without the benefits of analgesia. Our previous studies showed that infants do feel extreme pain, that they remember this pain and that it affects their future pain responses.

It starts off ... like a pressure pain, mostly around my left eye. ... When I get one I can't move my head, because ... it feels like my brain is swollen and moving around inside an eggshell. Sound is painful. Light is painful. I can't focus on anything.

There is a great deal of pain in life and perhaps the only pain that can be avoided is the pain that comes from trying to avoid pain.
  R. D. Laing

We're here to prevent any further pain and suffering, ... We believe that at this time Catholics across the globe deserve the right to reflect on the life of and to mourn the passing of Pope John Paul II without this embarrassing and painful topic of the sex abuse scandal coming into play. He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. We're here to prevent any further pain and suffering, ...  When James disappeared I had to disappear too, and that was a very painful thing in my life. Painful because gay and lesbian people know that not being seen is very hard.

It is hard to leave the world (to become a friar), it is hard to enjoy the world; hard is the monastery, painful are the houses; painful it is to dwell with equals (to share everything in common), and the itinerant mendicant is beset with pain.

So, I learn from my mistakes. It's a very painful way to learn, but without pain, the old saying is, there's no gain. I found that to be true in my life. You miss a lot of opportunities by making mistakes, but that's part of it: knowing that you're not shut out forever, and that there's a goal you still can reach.
  Johnny Cash

This horror of pain is a rather low instinct and... if I think of human beings I've known and of my own life, such as it is, I can't recall any case of pain which didn't, on the whole, enrich life.
  Malcolm Muggeridge

I'm sure there's absolutely nothing in my life, including the loss of life of many of my loved ones, that even comes close to the same level of pain, and the same enduring pain, that has caused.

Pain, you just have to ride it out, hope it goes away on its own, hope the wound that caused it heals. There are no solutions, no easy answers, you just breath deep and wait for it to subside. Most of the time pain can be managed but sometimes the pain gets you where you least expect it. Hits way below the belt and doesn't let up. Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can't outrun it and life always makes more.

Tragedy is the greatest art form of all. It gives us the courage to continue with our life by exposing us to the pain of life. It is unsentimental, it takes us seriously as human beings, it is not condescending. Paradoxically, by seeing pain we are made greater, it becomes a need.
