It's the best spring gezegde

 It's the best spring I've ever seen a guy have as far as getting big hits in big, game-winning or game-tying situations.

 If somebody hits a game-tying or game-winning hit, I jump up and down inside the dugout for goodness sakes because I can't help it, ... I'll throw a first pump in there and I just get happy.

 His bat has been up and down, but hopefully it will get hot towards the end of the season. He has had a couple of big hits in tough situations. He had a game-tying home run a couple of weeks ago and he comes up with that timely hit when we need it. He has good speed, he gets on base and he can hit the home run.

 I put him up there with the intent of him winning the game. You know, he's had such a great spring for us, he's such a veteran-type player who really is comfortable in those situations.

 Against Briggs and Mifflin we served 93 percent and at Harvest Prep it was 91. Our serving game is there, so is the passing. But we have to get more hits. If we average 30 hits per game, we have a decent chance of winning. We're not.

 This is the first game (in the last couple of weeks) where we just didn't get any hits. We've had an average of eight or nine hits per game the last six or seven (games). We've hit the ball. Young kids are overwhelmed by situations. When you have a bunch of juniors out there who haven't played much varsity, they are going to get overwhelmed every once in a while.

 I would sure like to win, but I do like the fact that we put some hits together and we were close. We were a hit away from tying it in the second game, and hopefully we can use that as a little bit of a springboard.

 We've got to see them in the game as Spring Training progresses. We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape. Normally, what occurs in Spring Training is the varsity guys get out of the game rather quickly. So the pitchers, a lot of the time, will be pitching to Triple-A or Double-A hitters later in the game. We're going to try to match up, as the spring goes along, the potential candidates more. Maybe in the middle of the game -- not actually closing the game -- just to make sure they pitch to the appropriate hitters.

 The win was nice but more importantly, we played well and we got better as the game went on. In key situations we're poised with the puck and that means more now in January than winning the game.

 We did better than expected. We faced a tough team and we prevailed. We got to se our team work in different situations, including being down in a game. Winning the first game 32-30 is nice, to know that we can keep fighting and stay aggressive.

 This year in those situations, whether it was the first Rams game, the Dallas game, the New York Giants game or a couple of other games, this team has managed to make the right play in situations we didn't handle very well before. It has been a different team right from the beginning.

 To get off the field injury free. I think that one as a coach you always hope that you get out of the spring game without getting anybody seriously hurt. Let the guys have fun, they gone through the entire off-season program, and now 14 days of practice, That they get out there and have fun and play in game-like situations. I want to see them compete. I want to see us improve. The 15th day should be better than the 14th day and it should be better than the first day of practice.

 This team had between four and seven runs and between eight and 12 hits every game in spring training. I'm sure they will come around.
