 In my TV job as a police detective, I have to deal with some pretty cold-hearted characters. But I can't think of anything more heartless than to torment and kill animals in the name of fashion.

 Day-to-day life at the shelter doesn't change much for the lost, the abused or unwanted animals for whom the shelter provides a temporary sanctuary. The torment some of these animals have endured is shocking. Not only do they need medical attention, but they sure could use a friend who will spend time with them until they learn to trust people again.

 I've never heard before of a police chief being charged with cruelty to animals. It could have happened somewhere, but I've not heard of it. I think it's a victory in that the laws that have been enacted to protect animals are being enforced, regardless of whether that person is chief of police or average Joe.

 My kids are being tormented by this guy. How do you kill a child's pet and then torment them a week later?

 Given the abundance of animals, one might think that Neanderthals would kill as many animals as possible, regardless of age, and therefore nutritional returns.

 He could kill me in a second, and I know that. But at the same time, bears are very social animals. They will stay with mother until 3 years old. They want to have that relationship with those who raised them. We don't have to be heavy-handed with them. That will develop an aggression we don't want to have to deal with. It's all bonding and reward and his desire to please the ones he really loves.

 It's all this cold-hearted fucking that is death and idiocy.
