 We are not ditching the (Sears Essentials) format. We are retooling it. The next wave of stores will have a number of exciting improvements to the off-mall format.

 There are so many similarities that it doesn't make sense to carry two off-mall format names. The [Essentials] format has been retooled and we're giving it a new name.

 The differences between Sears Grand and Sears Essentials are not that great. It made sense to have a single name for our off-mall stores.

 We are not locking ourselves into any set of technologies, ... We're looking at a standard format. There are a number of technologies that can accommodate the format.

 When Sears Essentials came in, you had a lot of morons running around screaming this was the greatest thing. I said it was a bowling alley with no customers. This business of going off-the-mall is much more complex than it looks.

 A name is just a name. We have to see what the new Sears Grand format will sell and at what price. We'll have to see what the changes are.

 I think the format is incredible. I think it was well thought out. I think the skins format has been the same for so long, I think it was getting a bit stale. I think this will infuse some life into it.

 We don't want a format war to occur. The last thing we want to have is customers coming into the store confused about which format is which and what's compatible.

 It's really a shame. Everyone in the retail community has been begging them to come together on a format. We're not serving the customer by a format war.

 We were actually doing quite well with the contemporary format, but Clear Channel launched the new variety format two years ago and it's just been a remarkable success.
