 We don't care about how we get there, as the East winner or the wild card, we just want to get to the playoffs. It's the most important thing. We're going to be gunning for these teams and this is the time of year for the Red Sox to show that we can shine.

 At the end of the year for other teams it's all about beating us. We are focusing on what we need to do in the playoffs, and other teams are trying to get into the playoffs.

 They've won some games but ... they're just beating up on bad teams, basically. It's not often that you all of a sudden see teams start beating good teams in the playoffs when they haven't done it all season. There is little reason to believe Miami can win the whole thing.

 We're trying to win our ballgames and put wins on for us, ... Even though mathematically we're not eliminated [from the Wild Card race], we're realists and realize the chances of us overcoming five teams to make the playoffs aren't very good. We still want to finish with the best possible record we can finish with. Therefore, we're not too concerned about trying to play spoiler. We just want to take pride in what we do and win ballgames.

 I'm a firm believer that the wild-card teams, because they're grinding it out until the final days, have a tremendous amount of excitement. That excitement carries over into the playoffs and really helps.

 Since I've been in the NFL, I've never seen a team go 10-6 and not make the playoffs. I've seen teams that were 9-7 and 8-8 make the playoffs. It would be mind-boggling to be 10-6 and not make the playoffs.

 It definitely gives you an edge to be the wild card. You feel like you've already been in the playoffs.

 This makes it so sweet. I remember talking to Derrick Brooks after the first Tampa game, and he said, 'We'll see you guys in the playoffs.' And I don't think he knew how true that was going to be, that we were going to actually see them in the first wild-card game.

 Our goal from day one has been to reach the playoffs. We know there's one path to get there now, and that's through the Wild Card.
