 This is not a mistake. It was the explicit intent of Congress to expand coverage to working families. The original sin of social policy was tying Medicaid directly to welfare. Now, it's tied to working.

 Income levels are among many things about families that appear to make some difference. But it's not simply income. It's parents' education. It's grandparents' education. It's books and other reading materials in the home. It's the way that parents talk and communicate with their children.

 It would appear that with revenue collection exceeding budget this fiscal year, additional tax relief may be forthcoming when Finance Minister Trevor Manuel unveils the national Budget for 2006/2007 on 15th February. Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential. Welfare and dependency grants, personal income tax relief, and cuts in those costs which would make housing more affordable for middle and low income earners are likely to buoy consumption expenditure, and manufacturing.

 Congress usually puts aside every budget from the President and will write their own. We will be working with our Congressional delegation as Congress writes their budget, so farmers shouldn't get too worked up until we get to the budget writing committees. This is the first step in a long process.

 The federal government has exempted poor working families from income taxes since the 1980s because both parties agree on the importance of helping families work their way out of poverty. Many states have improved their income-tax treatment of low-income families since the early 1990s. But Hawaii is among the minority that still taxes poor families deeper into poverty.

 Eliminating state income taxes on working families with poverty-level incomes gives a boost in take-home pay that helps offset higher child care and transportation costs that families incur as they strive to become economically self-sufficient. In other words, relieving state income taxes on poor families can make a meaningful contribution toward making work pay.

 In our view, welfare reform should not be pronounced a 'success' until the outcome among these -- the poorest families with children -- is one of consistent income gains rather than income stagnation or losses.

 a critical first step in bringing President Bush's budget to fruition. We look forward to working with the Budget Committee and the Congress to make these priorities law.

At a time of unprecedented national prosperity, Congress shouldn't rob the poorest Americans to provide reckless tax cuts and create a new deficit.

 Habitat is not a give-away program. It's a hand-up, not a handout, for hard-working families. Each family is selected on the basis of their present living conditions and their ability to pay a monthly mortgage payment. It is for low-income families not qualified for other traditional low-income mortgage programs.
