 Everyone agrees we need to get more freight on to rail. But the Government is cutting the grant necessary to do this. It is another example of a promise being broken.

 They are private companies in the business of making money by moving freight. So what it will come down to, as a freight rail operator, they have to be convinced that allowing passenger rail is a good business decision.

 This new classification of bonds is targeting freight transfer between truck and rail. The one component that always had me concerned on the overall financing of this project was the rail. It is a very important piece.

 That promise, I can say, was broken by the government.

 You get more bang for the buck expanding capacity with rail than by building more lanes. The Eisenhower Interstate System is now mature. We need similar vision for the 21st century. We don't just need more lanes of pavement. We need to ask how we?re going to move freight in this country. And the answer should include rail.

 Senator Hillary Clinton is attacking President Bush for breaking his campaign promise to cut carbon dioxide emissions, saying a promise made, a promise broken. And then out of habit, she demanded that Bush spend the night on the couch.

 We have to see all the parties cutting off money, cutting off support, cutting off the ability to operate, cutting off the ability of violent groups to challenge the authority that needs to be vested in the Palestinian Authority and then the government,

 The subject of scars comes up several times. And one of the things that appeals to me is that in the end, there's no promise made that everything's going to be wonderful. There's hope, but there's no promise. You just get the feeling that these people have finally broken through each other's armor.

 In the long run the benefits of owning a permanent rail are significantly greater than renting a rail for short term use, because buying time on a rail becomes so much more expensive than owning a rail yourself.

 December is an anomaly. We had an array of trouble. We had contractor problems, where contractors weren't able to clear the tracks in time for rush hour. We had a broken rail, missing third-rail shoes, locomotive engine failures, and then we had the (New York City transit) strike in December. That affected all the lines because of slower boarding and congestions. We had trains stacked.

 This was a promise that was made, and we believe that promise has been broken.

 We think (the proposal) is a huge step in the right direction. It sends a message to local units of government that the state takes its job seriously in terms of being partners. We're very enthusiastic about the fact they are talking about increasing that funding. It's been a long time that local governments have been cutting and cutting and cutting.

 For 20 years, we have had broken politics and broken government. This is our chance to change.
