 Quality is a little hard to figure out, but strong asset management incentive fees offset weaker restructuring fees resulting in in-line revenue.

 A year ago, average management fees were falling, but this turned around in 2005 with average management fees rising fairly strongly.  Excluding securities losses in the fourth quarter of 2005, core fee revenue growth from a year ago was $1.3 million, or 12%, with steady growth achieved in nearly every category. Service charges and fees on deposit accounts increased $970,000 to $6.6 million, primarily due to growth in transactions and new accounts resulting from core deposit program and the cross-selling of other products and services. Brokerage fees increased 85% to $789,000 due to strong market activity. Consulting fees of $1.7 million were down slightly, due to the timing of work completed last year for the documentation and testing of internal controls in our risk management practice.

 Management fees and incentive fees are still going up. Why? Supply and demand. Marquee managers can always demand and receive a premium from investors.

 Credit card companies are increasingly addicted to their fees. Six years ago, all fees - including late fees - contributed only a minor portion to overall revenue. Today it accounts for more than 30 percent.

 There are a variety of different credit card processing fees, and trying to figure them out is a difficult task for an untrained person. The merchant account companies purposely make their statements and fees difficult to understand, and that makes it hard for the average person to figure out if they can save money with a different company.

 This advertising revenue will help merchants offset processing fees.

 Interchange fees are just a way that credit card companies squeeze merchants to enhance their revenue stream. There is absolutely no need for these fees to be so high, and without anything to control them, the banks and the credit card companies continue to find ways to escalate the fees.

 It's clearly an issue. Performance fees will come and go, but the assets they manage have also grown so base management fees will increase.

 It's not an uncommon fee. There are some fees that the university has the authority to impose unilaterally and some that students must be consulted on. Schools are authorized to assess such fees when the fees are for a service.

 Ratings are strong, which is good for advertising, but it is being offset by the renegotiation of affiliate fees,

 The research says many Canadians feel they pay too much in fees for the quality of service they receive. This is a troubling fact given the significant negative effect fees can have on investment returns over the long term.
