 You have young men who have typically kind of a macho image of themselves. Noise loud enough to cause hearing loss isn't necessarily painful.

 A young person may be exposed to a loud noise and cause permanent damage, but a younger ear will compensate and so the effect of that damage is not noticed. As you get older, you lose hearing and the damage becomes more apparent.

 It's the noise. On game day, it sounds almost the same. I want to say Death Valley is louder, but sometimes, I don't know, man, it gets loud, like really loud out here.

 We're seeing the kind of hearing loss in younger people typically found in aging adults. Unfortunately, the ear buds preferred by music listeners are even more likely to cause hearing loss than the muff-type earphones that were associated with the older devices.

 I can see why many people would not want to wear the 'stereotypical' hearing aids of the bygone era, such as the hearing tube that looked like a trumpet coming out of your ear, or the wires and cords - but a lot of men nowadays have hearing loss. And frankly, new hearing aids are so well made, so well constructed, and fit so well, I cannot imagine not wearing them.

 I think the biggest loss is going to be the loss of dune, the loss of beach, the loss of protection. That's the scariest thing.

 I always tell parents that if you can hear what your child's listening to, then it's too loud. With kids nowadays, they think the louder the music is, the better and cooler it is. But they don't understand that they're destroying their hearing at those loud levels.

 A loss definitely kind of puts us out. Not mathematically, but common sense tells us we're out.

 Common-sense is part of the home-made ideology of those who have been deprived of fundamental learning, of those who have been kept ignorant. This ideology is compounded from different sources: items that have survived from religion, items of empirical knowledge, items of protective skepticism, items culled for comfort from the superficial learning that is supplied. But the point is that common-sense can never teach itself, can never advance beyond its own limits, for as soon as the lack of fundamental learning has been made good, all items become questionable and the whole function of common-sense is destroyed. Common-sense can only exist as a category insofar as it can be distinguished from the spirit of inquiry, from philosophy.

 Most people don't realize that common sense is the real thing computers are missing,

 Citizens have the natural right and the common sense duty to protect themselves, their families, their communities, and their property...guns are the equalizing tools of self-protection, utopian lamentations notwithstanding.

 If you can use your common sense and you can put the whole record together, I think it was a good presentation that didn't make the point that logic and common sense would allow to be made.
