en Suddenly the desire to write tricked back into my life again, not that I would want to tour or go on the road. Once you have been writing all of your life, it is part of what you do. What else do you do?

en [This summer, they're taking that party out on the road for their first big tour with the Backstreet Boys, where they're being introduced to pyrotechnics (in the Backstreet show), and – what they're most excited about – their first tour bus.] We just came from a minivan. It's pretty amazing to suddenly be sleeping and back here writing songs and up there watching TV, ... It's awesome.

en It's going to be a year in the writing life, Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. We're having a blast with it, posting and responding to readers every day. It's a good record of the book tour we're on and the writing we're doing, but it's also taking on a life of its own.

en Why am I compelled to write?... Because the world I create in the writing compensates for what the real world does not give me. By writing I put order in the world, give it a handle so I can grasp it. I write because life does not appease my appetites and anger... To become more intimate with myself and you. To discover myself, to preserve myself, to make myself, to achieve self-autonomy. To dispell the myths that I am a mad prophet or a poor suffering soul. en We're pretty regular guys. Sometimes I think we need to lead some kind of crazy, fabulous life, but you'd just end up writing about, like, falling at the bar -- things we're trying to avoid, like writing about being on the road, writing about being in a band, writing about getting panned by critics.

en I hit everything so hard this year. I had the biggest tour I've ever done, I had a record to finish that was real important to me, and, of course, I had something new in my personal life, and I was trying to do that, too. en Writing it was kind of hard, ... I wrote a lot of it on the road, and I don't really enjoy writing on the road. There's so much going on, doing interviews and going to radio stations and getting ready for shows. You're sick all the time, and there's no space on the bus. I'd rather write at home in Nashville.

en I don't really mind what people say about my love life or anything like that, but the one thing is that, yes, I do sing and write all my own music. That is something that I hold really dear. And yeah, I made a fool of myself in front of the world, but it was also great to pick myself back up and go on tour.

en I think what we are trying to do as Audioslave is de-emphasize the cyclical nature of modern recording artists where a band tours for a year and a half and then vanishes for two years, ... What we'd like to do is make records and tour. Write music, tour, record, tour. Keep it all going all at once like bands did in the '70s.
