They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

 The world wants Microsoft to build secure products. The world does not want Microsoft to become a security software vendor. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. Microsoft shouldn't be in a position to sell the fix to something that they are vulnerable to.

 [Mike Rogers, general manager for desktop and office productivity software at Sun, said the company listened to beta testers and users of trial copies of the new suite to give it the features and capabilities wanted by businesses.] We really believe that 95 percent of Microsoft Office users will find what they need here, ...  Microsoft is late to the CRM market with 3.0, and faces significant challenges with their antiquated hosting model, channel strategy for enterprise software, and selling to the business unit, not IT. While they may have success on the low end of the market with 3.0, they will be significantly challenged in appealing to the middle market, and global 2000.

 We remain cautiously optimistic on Microsoft as the company slowly transitions itself from its reliance on desktop software and continues to roll out its higher growth, server side software.

 Microsoft's market cap right now is $208 billion. If you were to combine Ford and General Motors market cap(s) . . . that would only equal half of (Microsoft's) market cap. Granted, (Microsoft) by far is the premier growth company in the world today. But again, it is trading at 60 times earnings.

 Ultimately, Microsoft knows that the software landscape will shift from the desktop to the hybrid of the Internet and the desktop. Google has thrown out warning shots that they will be players in many of the significant areas of software.

 Software as a service is something Microsoft wanted to pretend wasn't ever going to happen. The problem they have is that customers want it. Now more and more of the Microsoft franchise is being encroached upon, and not by a bunch of pimply kids like it was in the early Internet days, but by a company with a $100 billion market cap.
